I think this is an excellent idea. The current job market is still weak and most jobs are found by word of mouth. I've been out of a job for a year now and am starting a business next month. I'm scared as hell starting a business with our new baby and all. Oh well, what's life like if you don't go for broke...er, maybe I should use a different word

I've found out a lot about small business over the past year researching and would love to talk with other small business owners in the NoVa area or anyone thinking about starting a business for the first time.

Thought this would be a good time to resurrect this thread.

As of Friday I resigned and am currently looking for employment in the IT field. In the mean time I'm doing some side work for friends to keep from becoming stale. Any leads or opportunities for an IT Systems Analyst (infrastructure, servers, networking) would be appreciated.

BTW: You guys know of any local p-shops needing some part time help until something more permanent becomes avail? :P

I'd drop my job in a heartbeat if something better came my way. But since I'm probably CA-bound in the fall, I just have to tread water.

Charlie, why did you quit with nothing else lined up? Was it that bad? I do know a lady who needs a rebuilt tranny installed in her '88 250SL and would pay you for it.

Dan, I started mine about 2 years ago after moving here with no job in sight. Always welcome to talk business.

It's always who you know. During the early 90's recession, our office shut down a week before Christmas without any warning. At the last minute an aquaintance came through with a new opportunity...been there ever since. I am still trying to figure out a way to make money on this particular car habit.

I'd like to make money on this car habit too. But every time I DIY some job, I think to myself, "Could I do this every day? Do I have the patience?"

Then I think to myself, "A good man always knows his limitations."

I think the key to making money from the car habit is not in the repair side but the product side. Design and market a product that you can sell the masses, a lot like Chuck Moreland has done with his Elephant Racing stuff. Hell, I bought his bushings for my car.

Usually, when you try to do a hobby for pay, that saps the fun right out of it. Or so I've been told, I've never BTDT.
