Does anyone here shoot IDPA? I have some holster/reload/ clothes questions.

My son and I may do a Tuesday night classifier at Blue Ridge Arsenal. We are looking at - correct me if I am wrong - CDP for me with my new-to-me 1911, and something-basic for him with my full size XD-9. He will outshoot me, no doubt. I am doubling down on age & guile. At 16, he lacks both.

Before the Chantilly show, I knew I had a 1911 before, but I couldn't recall when. I came home from the gun show and found I already had a FOBUS kydex holster, a leather DeSantis shoulder rig, seven extra McCormick mags, a set of reloading dies already set up for my Dillon.

Either Santa has some strange timing, or your memory can get messed up if you have small kids...

Any IDPA guys, I am all ears. And for the rest, I will listen, most likely.

I used to shoot a lot of USPSA and IDPA, what do you need to know? IDPA requirements are pretty basic --

• strong side holster
• no farther forward than front of hip bone
• no race guns - but 1911's are fine
• cover garment - jacket, vest, sweatshirt - i preferred light windbreaker
• tactical reloads with retention

I pop for one of those at that cost point tonight if I could find one!! Learned to shoot .45s in boot camp in '66! If it don't bight you once in a while how do you know it loves you South pawl Senior Chief instructor had his cheek sliced open showing off by an ejected case. Any who laughed ran laps till they puked.

Used to qualify at the Naval Academy range every couple of years when in Navy Reserve.

Rock Island was $460 NIB at the show.

Looks very nice. I will test it this week.

Already had the extra seven mags, two carriers, two holsters, dies, and Dillon bits to get started rollin more rounds. Seems Blue Ridge only allows FMJ. I have 18,000 reasons to be disappointed with that.

Maybe Silver Eagle allows lead? I guess I am more out of date than I thought.

Pretty sure no restrictions on lead @ Silver Eagle. As of a couple of weeks they were having a membership special, which got me to finally buy...

tactical reloads with retention - what does that mean? is it that you must remove, re-holster the mag, then insert a fresh one?

I know it means you keep the mag with you, not drop it on the ground. I do not know if you can hold a full mag, drop the empty or partially empty mag into the same hand, the slide the full one home before pocketing the original mag.
