Mihnea,
I couldn't notice any change in pedal feel since I installed the Vision BBK ( GT3 6 piston calipers ) and the Ti shims at the same time. Along with the GT3 MC the car has a nice high, firm pedal.

I have the RSS LCAs. Some years ago RSS sent me improved "ball joint" pins which were installed. A PITA since I went through almost what you had to do. Fear of losing a ball joint pin at the track was enough to keep me going on the re-install. Selling off the RSS LCAs could help fund the Tarett setup....

I have the GT3 MC as well, so good to know that the Ti shims don't alter pedal fell much.

Ha ha good point. Come to think about it, it sounds downright reasonable.

Spent 30 minutes in the garage today, but got good value out of my time. At 30F, my hands were frozen stiff after about 10 minutes even with latex gloves on. Note to self - heated garage = mandatory.

To pull off the rear bumper, start by raising the rear wing. Undo the tiny torx screws on the underside of the wing, pull the painted top half off, undo the two 13mm nuts and pull the lower wing assembly off, lower the wing (or wing struts at this point), then pull the taillights (3 x 8mm nuts each). All done with that.

The bumper is held in place by a total of 12 torx screws. Two of them are found to the left and right of each taillight. One is at the top rear of each wheel well (corner of bumper), two are on the underside of the bumper on each side, and the final two are to the left and right of the exhaust. Remove them! Pull the bumper off. Slide it over the rear fender liners first, then out toward the back. All that done.

Remove the fender liner on each side (3 x 10mm nuts and 1 x 10mm plastic nut - all obvious). Then remove the bumper carrier (2 x 16mm bolts - torque is 63 ft-lbs for installation). All done.

Remove the exhaust. YMMV, my Fabspeed race exhaust takes 5 minutes flat by undoing the v-clamps on each side and then the 4 bolts on the back of the transmission. All done.

In the photo I'm also showing my clutch bleeder extension, which relocates the bleeder valve for the clutch slave cylinder and makes it easily accessible. Otherwise, bleeding the clutch on a 987/986 is a PITA.

That's it for today. With higher temps tomorrow I should be able to drop the transmission quickly and check out my oil leak. Either RMS or IMS flange.

Default RMS/IMS seal replacement thread

Mihnea,
Glad to see how the bumper cover is removed.

Over at Cayman Register there is a nicely illustrated article on replacing the RMS and IMS on a Cayman. PCA membership is required to view it however. Yes those Fabspeed V clamps are the cat's meow.

When I lived on Long Island it seemed like major car repairs always fell during the winter months. Coveralls and long johns were the dress of the day. The coveralls never made it to FL. Conversely working on the Cayman in July really bites.

He's already an expert. He helped and guided me through my replacements last year! I couldn't have done it without his and his brother's help. Thanks again.

I hear you. That's one reason I backed the car in this time and got this:

And floor mats. Cold to the bone on concrete or porcelain tile!

Its actually small - no room for serious! Maybe 12" cubed, $100 buck quartz heater from Northern Tool. I'm sure a generic design. I was concerned it wouldn't work but its been fine.

Made some more progress today by removing the transmission. I only took some photos at the end, because I tried using a different method to share my progress instead of photos. I should be able to show it here tomorrow.

Anyway, while we wait for that, here are some photos. Engine bay. Pretty clean after a season.

Transmission, clutch, and flywheel removed. Now, we're looking at the engine case. And yes, obviously my RMS, installed 2000 miles ago is just fine. The IMS flange is the culprit.

The clutch and flywheel (also about 2000 miles old - all track).

Current look.

So, as promised, here is a different way of showing my progress.
