Just kidding, Karl. Those are great times, no doubt.

Karl, I seem to remember that when Mike did the 1:17 in that car it cost him an engine. It always comes down to how much are you willing to pay for that fast time? 8)

Betty,

Not the price of an engine rebuild that's for sure. The $/second equation is way out of wack.

Betty,
How serious was Wayne J with his 1:05 predicted time for the gunnar 914?
Is that kind of time possible for a 2.0 liter car? He was claiming 2:14 at VIR - with GJ driving, of course.

A 2:14 at VIR doesn't seem to equate to a 1:05 at Summit. For example, a well set-up Cup car on slicks at VIR is capable of a 2:00 flat and a 1:17-1:18 at Summit. A 2:14 at VIR should be equivalent to a 1:26-1:28 at Summit from my experience.

That's what I was thinking. The 1:05 was listed against the 914 [which is a fairly radical 914 - won Rennsport outright] but the time was probably Waynes target for his Lola/Porsche LMP675 car. Shame they did not get that baby sorted in time for the TT.

A 1:05 at SP? What's the lap record and in what kind of car?

Somebody will need to check my math but let's see if this is correct:
A time of 1:05 would equal an average speed of 119 mph (2.153 miles divided by 65 seconds times 3600 [60 seconds times 60 minutes] equals 119.24 mph)

In my book that would be one quick a$$ lap !

I think Tony has it right. That time was posted for the LMP675 car, not the 914. I think Mike Levitas turned a lap in the low teens in his full out GT1R Turbo car with 700 HP and Wayne himself turned a 1:11 last year or the year before in a 962 spyder.

Gee, I would love to think that a 2.0 914 could do a 1:05 at Summit. Think what a 3.2 would be capable of. A girl can dream huh?

Wayne is probably one of the most generous, likable people. He asked me on Saturday of the tt weekend how my car was doing and I replied that it was basically on the trailer due to some "teething problems". He immediately offered to let me drive his 914 for a session! When I said that I couldn't afford to drive that car in case something happened to it he said not to worry, he was sure I'd be very careful. I then explained the true reason I couldn't drive his beautiful car. If I did I would forever look at my car and think of everything that it wasn't and it's important right now that I continue to love my car! He walked away laughing and shaking his head..... He also offered to let me drive it last fall at VIR before mine was even ready to drive. I think he's tryng to pull me to the really, really dark side of this car thing.....
