Default Proper Care of a Low Use Car

As of May 8th, I will be moving to a new office that is 1.55 miles away from my house if I drive, and even shorter if I walk.

It makes absolutely no sense to drive to work, much less drive the 996.

As such, my 996 will now be relegated to very low usage on the weekend.

As some of you know, I am contemplating selling it.

If I do not sell it, do you have any tips for ensuring that my car is not damaged by the low usage?

Until now, I had been driving the car every day rain, sun or snow. Until at operating temperature, I kept the car below 4K. Once at operating temperature, I tried to push the car to the extent I was able whenever possible.

What should my new routine involve?

Thanks in advance,

TD

TD, you can "lend" it to me, just maintain the insurance/registration and give me a weekly cheque for $200 for gas and I'll even keep it in my garage. No prob.

Change all fluids now. Dry and stabilize the gas and drive some to get the prepared gas through the system. Go over all maintenance work that might be needed. Clean the car well inside and out. Get road crud out of all the nooks and crannies in the undercarriage. Drive it 30 min or so at least once every two weeks in dry conditions if you can. Block wiper arms up a bit to keep the wiper blades from taking a hard set. Clean the door and trunk seals and condition. Run everything a little bit when you do drive, blowers, AC, power motors to seats, glass and the like. Install a battery maintainer, not a trickle charger, a true maintainer.

If Dirk is too far away for visits your glass top can come and stay at my house. I will drive it to work from time to time. The drive is just right to warm the car up and it will have plenty of other Porsches to visit with during the day.

Kurt covered everything i was going to say. Particulary the battery maintainer. There is nothing worse than having the battery die on one of your p-cars. Our 930 at home lives on a battery maintainer in the garage with a car cover over it.

I can drive it from the GWU dorms to 3000k this summer. But i think that is shorter than 1.55 miles. LOL

I think you might be on the right side if you are facing the water. I will be on the left in a closet. LOL.

So, does that mean there are going to be greesy clandestine 944 part exchanges in the courtyard?

BTW, I don't think you want me driving your street car. I almost got stopped again today when flying to campus to turn in my take home Corporations final in a 98 mercury Mountaineer (tow vehicle) which I drive like a maniac. For property last semester the cop just did the whoop whoop with the lights as I was power sliding out of the complex. This time, he just pointed. I am also right on the edge of school.

Of course I wasn't endangering anybody, but you wouldn't want to turn it in late. I can't wait to not be in school for the summer.
