Hey all,
I am in the process of replacing the leathers on my 964 seats with the leathers from a 993 seats and got all the way through replacing the bottom leathers. I am stuck on the back of the driver's seat as I don't know how to remove the seat levers. Could you please tell me how to go about removing this seat levers?. Thanks in advance for all your help. Andy

If you are referring to the levers on the sides, it's a pain. They have small barb type retainer clips. I have yet to remove these without damaging the plastic lever portion.
The method I used was to pry it out with a "L" shaped scribe. You may get lucky and not break them. They are fairly cheap from parts catalogs.

I wish I knew!
I'm going to go thru this soon BTW what color are the ones you're replacing? I'm getting ready to dye Jim's red 996 seats black. Maybe a swop is in the stars?

Thanks guys. I'll give Ted's method a try. I got a new set of black leather 993 seat cover from worldupholstery and it will replace the 964 black leather covers. I was initially going to replace grey leather with blue piping covers on my 993 seats but decided not to, due to the driver's seat on the 964 has 12 ways adjustable funtion where as only 8 ways on the 993 driver's seat. I'll let you know, Bill, if I found an easier method to remove the levers.

Were the old black covers toast? I'm guessing they won't fit on mine.
My seats have a maunal slide and 2 levers on the side. But, It does have a big plate on the side for those 2 levers. Let me know if you think it's worth at shot. Otherwise, I'm thinking of taking the red seats apart partially to make sure I get black dye in all the nooks and crannies. Don't want red peaking thru a few years down the road. Thanks Ted and Andy!

Bill,
I tried to dye my leather door panels just to get the techniques down so that I can dye my 993 leather seats black. After I see the result, I gave up on dyeing and bit the bullet and bought the leather skins from worldupholstery. I know Charlie had great luck with his dye job, mine was just terrible. The leather panels I dyed was originally grey and I redyed it black. I think where I went wrong was partially that I over sanded the leather to a point that I lost some of the characteristic grains on the leather and also partially due to the black color I chose. It was very hard to get a nice even settling from the dye and you can see minor blothches quite readily. Perhaps I did not prep enough?, I don't know. If I had to do it over again, I would pick a lighter color so that the blemishes won't show up as well. I still have a lot of the black dye and prep agent from leatherique that you can give it a try if you like, but dye a scrap piece of leather first before you do it on the seats. I don't mean to scare you Bill. Just let me know if you'll need the "practice prep and dyes?". TBW, if you would like a set of black leather 993 seats, I can cover the 993 seats with the new ,all leather, cover and trade you for the red/lobster 996 seats

Oh also Bill, the old 964 covers are black leather front. The passenger side is a little stiff because hardly anyone ever sat on it. I did oiled it last summer using leatherique's products. It's still a little stiff, maybe, it just need to be sat on and reoil this summer. The driver seat is nice and supple, however, there is a 1/2" cut on the seat bolster in a V shape. I am going to try to see if Mr. Kim can repair it and sell it on ebay or something. andy

Thanks for the warnings. I already have the dye. The leather on the seats is in perfect condition. It's only the color that I'm trying to change. They told me that the prep work would be minimal.
I'm going to test in an unseen area first. I'll keep you posted!

Good luck Bill, keep us updated. You know, I may play with the dyes a little bit, using a spraygun in stead of the brush on an extra 964 leather. May get better results?, who knows. Well, while everyone's at SP, i'll be home replacing my cab top
