Default Speed Traps

How about a collection of known speed traps in the area for um, planning purposes? Here are some of the ones I know about here in the good ol' PRMD:

- I-270 spur, headed to the outer loop I-495 south (into VA). When you get on the spur, it will initially bear to the right as you pass the exit for Democracy Blvd. Then, as you pass the on ramp to the spur from Democracy, the spur will start to curve to the left. There is a concrete barrier on the left side of the road, and they sit far enough around the curve that you can't see them until you come around the bend.

- I-270, right around I-370. They love to sit in the median where there is a break in the barrier and get people, mostly headed northbound.

- I-270 between Exit 11 (Mont Village Ave) and 13 (Middlebrook Rd). Another gap in the barrier in the middle of the road. They'll get you in either direction here, usually shooting the in direction opposite to rush hour. Sometimes they get HOV violators going the otherway. There is usually 2-3 running the trap, with one guy using binoculars (!) to spot traffic. How they can reliably shoot you with radar when they have to use binoculars is beyond me, but I'm sure that little moral dilemma bothers neither them nor the judge.

- Middlebrook Road, Germantown, MD. This is a nasty trap, and in fact I avoid this road altogether because of it. Middlebrook Road is a 6 lane divided road with commercial property on either side. The speed limit? 35mph, of course. 6 lanes! Damn thing is wider than I-270 when it goes to 65mph, but whatever. If you're on Middlebrook headed from 118 to 355, there is a little brick building right after the I-270 underpass or the right. They like to sit behind that building and get you from there.

- Great Seneca Hwy (119), between Gaithersburg and Germantown. This is a nice 4 lane divided road with a 55mph speed limit. There is a stretch between Germantown and Gaithersburg where there is nothing but parkland on either side. This is where all the morons that wouldn't do more than 45mph when it was 55mph now feel the need to do 70, but I digress. There is WSSC treatment plant on the left isde (heading north) with a hidden entrance. They stick about 4-5 cars in the entrance and pick people off as they go flying by.
