Default 987.1 2006 boxster s 3.2l clutch, rms, ims

for some stupid reason i let someone take my boxster on a short trip during a 'crisis' over the weekend when i was out of town

so, this morning i get in it to go to work, cranked it up, and immediately feel an unusual vibration

i let it warn up a bit, then try to engage 1st, no joy, then reverse, no joy, then 2nd, no joy

i shut it down

discussed it at length with Taylor Chapman, he seems to think sheer pin is broke

it has 65k miles, and i knew it was at least needing some clutch adjustment before this happened

so, now i am thinking full clutch service, rms, and perhaps ims

however, is the extra money on the ims worth it?

removing the bearing seal ring on the existing ims may be good enough with 65k miles on the car

any thoughts?

Measure the cam deviation with Durametric or similar.

I hope for your sake that is all it is Otto. It only gets worse from there.

If generally okay then yes do the preventive stuff but realize there are no guarantees with the preventative stuff as well.

Did your former "friend" (or current spouse ) mention they had any problem with the car? I can't imagine they parked it perfect and then the pin broke... Sorry for your tsuris.

Truth stranger than fiction, I pulled my car into my garage after our last event and it didn't;t move after that. I started it to go for my tech inspection and I could not get it in gear. Turns out the shifter coupling under the car split in half. It was an original part and worse was slightly modified by the prior owner. Point is sometimes this stuff can happen. I would have thought the same thing as you until last week as I did see it myself.
