Default Fuel Pump Died !

For the first time in 2+ years of ownership the P-car let me down today. I was all set to drive her to work and then head over to the Taj Garage in the evening for some minor design work but lo and behold she wouldn't start.

My initial thoughts of a fuel pump gone bad were confirmed after a house call by the good doctor Marc.

Jumping online I found a source out in CA [Drivewire.com] for $192 (including free shipping) which is about $15 to $20 cheaper then most other places (before shipping). Best part was that they have a warehouse in NJ so it will ship on Monday and I'll have it on Tuesday.

Looks like she'll be back on the road by the middle of next week which is perfect timing for the tech session next Saturday

What's bad about it? No sound or sound but no fuel movement? Depending on the failure, internal or external, pumps can be fixed.

If there is sound but no fuel movement disconect the line from the tank and blow air back into the tank. A cloged tank sock will stop or reduce fuel flow and make the now dry running pump sound like it is falling apart. This is not an uncommon failure.

If no sound put 12V directly to the pump. Just run a wire from the bat right to the pump +. Check the ground as well. If you have a ohm meter test to see if the pump coil is open.

Make sure she is not pumping and it's just a ground problem. Man those CIS systems are electrically challenged.
