Hello Group:
It was good to see many of you at Hershey this past weekend even if the weather kind of put a damper on the event. Nice to see everyone picked up some goodies. Now, if only Marc and I had talked earlier about those cookie cutters I had at home... For those of you interested in Historic / Vintage racing and Porsches this event, the Jefferson 500 at Summit Point, is an excellent place to see some fellow Potomac PCA members running "long hood" and middle year cars against all kinds of historic / vintage cars. The 356 registry is organizing a gathering at the event and there will be several "fun run" groups coming in from up and down the east coast. Perhaps an opportunity for another fun run for the NOVA Porschephiles? I have run this event for the past two years with my father and have to say it is a blast! I particularly enjoy the '60s SS Cameros, Mustang GT 350s and Corvettes bursting my eardrims when they downshift heading into turn 1. This year I'm wearing two sets of earplugs! Usually some racing celebs join in for the fun, Bobby Rahal and Hurly Haywood were there last year (Rahal was lapping in the 1:12s!) If you do head out please stop by our trailer and say hello. We'll have a gooseneck trailer with "Scott Swimming Pools" splattered on the cars. As an entrant, we are allowed several extra "crew" positions that get in for free. Depending on how many necessary spots we need we may have some extra tickets. Will post more as we get closer to the event. Perhaps Mike Smalley will come again this year with his radar gun. We had a lot of fun last year getting entry and exit speeds for turn 10. An added bonus is you may be able to test your detectors to see if they work or just put on a pretty light show. Jason |

Jase, Good to see you in the rain too.
I've got that event on my calender. I'd love to join you if you could use an extra crewhand who is not very skilled. Bill |

Jason -
Nice to finally meet you at Hershey. I'll second that the Jefferson 500 is a great event (and in our own backyard to boot!). I've been attending since 1993 and am looking forward to it again this year. It's funny, but I've always admired the Scott Swimming Pool car and now I come to find out it's in the NoVa family. One of my favorite activities associated with the event are the laps for charity during lunch. I've historically done them on Saturday when the crowds are much smaller b/c on Sunday the number of cars on the track are just too much. I appreciate the offer of a free pass but at $25 (for both days) I don't mind paying b/c those fees will keep the event running. I will definately stop by and say hello and if you need a hand with anything while I'm there don't hesitate to ask. See you there.

Bill:
We have 3 extra crew passes. I'll put you down for one of them. Just remind me when we get closer to the event. Doug: Thanks for the kind words about the cars color scheme. Believe me, the cars look much better now with gold OEM centerpieces in the wheels than when we painted them red to match the rainbow colors of the cars (was my father's idea to paint them red). At Sebring earlier this year we wore out our generic "race" steering wheel (separates from metal frame when hot) so... we are looking for a new competition wheel. Of course, my father wants a red wheel... I have to get him out of this "I want rice" phase he is going through. I agree with your thoughts on the laps for charity, Saturday is less crowded event than on Sunday. Worth doing IMHO. I took my wife (then fiance) out in my street car during the laps a few years ago to show her the proper "line" and to point out where I was having "yahoo" moments (defined as helmet cracking from ear splitting grin). Spoke with James Redman (race director) http://www.gorace.com/jefferson500/main.html yesterday and he said the field is bigger than ever this year. Looks like there'll be plenty of open wheeled single seaters, chevrons, trans-am types, a few 904 / 906 types, tons of 911s and some other surprises. Should be good racing. BTW FYI several other Potomac guys usually enter this event: Mark Francis and Dave Ross come to mind and a couple of others. Jason |

Most of you are 911 drivers but, I suspect there are some lurking 944 owners amongst us. For the lurkers out there and those of us interested in supporting Potomac Region members, I am dropping a link from a post by David Derecola, organizer extroadinaire for the 944 Cup series and former Potomac region Registrar. This looks like a good deal if you know any 944 / 924 owners to pass it along to.
http://www.pcapotomac.org/cgi-bin/ul...&f=11&t=000095 A few years ago the 944s ran with the historic cars and although most of the NA 944s ran in the 1:36 range (don't think turbos / 951s were allowed), they had some close battles. If you haven't met them, David and Chris Derecola (his son) are serious "water pumper" porschephiles, supportive club members and good guys to boot. Hopefully, with the popularity and growth of the 944 Cup, they'll be able to attract other regional racers to the Jefferson 500. T - 10 days and counting... Jason |

There's a large group of 356'ers heading there for a concousr at Summit on Saturday as part of a 2-day event called Blue Meets Grey being held in Winchester, all the cars are coming out to Summit for the Vintage Races. Can't wait. Hope to see others there. Keith

Keith:
The 356 gathering sounds like fun! If things work out I'll bring our 356 track car to put in the corral. I once ran in a race at SP called the "Blue / Grey Challenge" but, that was all on the track with carpet-bagging northern car owners versus the south. At the time, both my father and I were from the north but, now that I have officially been living in VA for years I might have to switch side and run for the grey. Of course I realize that I am not an "official" southerner, just by proxy. As of today, all of the passes are gone. Sometimes fellow racers don't use theirs so, if any more become available I'll post it. Jaosn |

Jason,
You're from Arlington and do some 356 racing, do you know Tim Berardeli? He's a 356 engine re-builder, and a hell of a mechanic, he's got a shop down off Van Dorn Ave. Have we met at a Potomac 356 Owner's meet? Keith
