^ Brain is probably taking quite a beating also. Guess I'll take the concussion over the disconnected spine!

I'm planning to get a HANS and would appreciate some advice on which model(s) to get.
These are the models OG Racing shows: http://www.ogracing.com/driver/head-...nufacturer=171. I understand that the Pro version weighs less, and I'm willing to pay the extra cost for that since it will be used a lot. But I see two Pro versions, and I'm not clear on the difference. At the track, I've also seen a HANS that can be used without a harness, but I don't see it listed on OG's website. Is it discontinued? Unsafe? Ineffective? I thought of getting one in addition to the one that works with a harness, to use when I'm in a car without a harness (which will definitely sometimes be the case). Edit: By 'harness' I mean 6-pt, as opposed to the regular 3-pt. Last edited by CanAm; 12-17-2012 at 06:10 PM. |

Do yourself a favor and go to OG and try them on. Bring your helmet. Bring your car if you have seats/harnesses. If not, sit in the seats they have on display. I thought I knew what I wanted, but when I got there and spoke with the OG staff, I ended up with a different model than what I expected (the 30 degree model fit me better than the 20 degree).

A lot has changed since I got my HANS, but I have the sport model. The higher end models are carbon fiber and offer no safety advantage. I hear a lot of people talk about how the pro version weighs less like that is the most important thing in the world, but I find when my harnesses are strapped tightly I failed to notice a difference between the sport and the pro. For 20-30 min DE session, I doubt anybody could really tell the difference. I've also used my sport model for 90 minute club race enduros and 2.5 hours stints in a LeMons car. I don't see myself ever spending double for the carbon fiber model.
HANS is a brand name when it comes to this, so the other stuff you are talking about are things like the DefNder (http://www.defnderneckbrace.com/) or the Simpson one. Just make sure it has the proper certification if you plan to use it for racing.

x3. HANS Sport owner here. I tried both out on track before I bought and simply could not tell the difference.
That's exactly it. If you're cinched down as tight as you should be, a couple of ounces of plastic plus or minus makes no difference.

I see that HANS has Sports and Adjutable series now. Like others I see no reaon to go Pro. However, I recomend sliding teter and quick release. I have quick release and Carolyn has the non-quick release. I think I like mine better, but she seems to have minimal problem with hers.
