Default Msd-6al

I have a 1983 911SC and I am looking to install an MSD-6Al. I purchased the 101 projects book for 911s and the MSD-6AL is highly recomended. Any comments?

Thanks,
Glenn

What's wrong with your existing ignition system?

Nothing wrong, just considering the upgrade. I need someone to take my car for a test drive and give me a good assessment. My last 911 was over 9 years ago. The car is getting painted and should come out next week out of the paint shop. Then I will begin to do some of the mechanical work over the winter. One thing that I need to do is rig some hoses and get some heat into the car because the previous owner out of Florida took out the heating elements, heating blower, hoses, etc..

Also the car needs a pop off valve installed in the airbox. I already purchased the parts. The car was in storage for over 5 years. I have drove the car with new gas and gas treatment. Its smells pretty bad out of the exhaust. Probably needs some CIS adjustments. Anyway did not mean to write you a book. I appreciate your feedback.

The car is very nice and probably after I restore this one I will buy later a second one. More for daily use. I got the antique plates on it to avoid emissions, etc. Once I get it running right I will take it for emissions and change the plates. Thanks again, Glen

What year is the car? I'm taking the heat out of both of mine this winter. Could save you from having to run all over the place trying to piece it together.

This is a good idea and was going to post the same thing. BTW if in VA, SC's timed out for emissions years ago

Not a hard install. Many people use them. Mount the box in a place that is as protected from high heat as you can.

If it was my car and had been in storage for years and I wasn't certain what had been done or where/how things were adjusted previously:

I would take it to Taylor Chapman at German Auto Group (http://www.germanautogroupva.com/html/team.html) and have them adjust the CIS (control/running/warmup pressures and exhaust gas analyzer to set the CO) to get a baseline. Otherwise, you'll be chasing your tail as multiple components work in concert (AAR, AAV, WUR, O2, etc...).

Once this is done, then I'd move to ignition refresh/upgrades (MSD box, wires, cap/rotor, new plugs, etc...) and other improvements.

Good luck.

Jase,
10-4 I already talked to him. I heard nothing but good things from Mr. Chapman.

Thanks and best regards,

Glenn
