Default NASA comp school/race at VIR

Lane, Josh and I just came back from a NASA weekend. Had a blast.

The comp school was well worth the money. It really prepared me (at least mentally) for the Sat and Sunday race. I didn't realize much room there is on the track until I was forced to do drills like, drive on left only, drive on right only, side-by-side and leap frog drills. We started the comp school on Friday at around 7am and we didn't finish until around 8pm. 5 classes and 4 driving sessions of over 40-min each.

Sat race was a real eye opener. It's like information overload with all the stuff going on all at once. I qualified 10th (out of 10 GTS3 cars) and finished 10th. The cable popping out of my gas pedal didn't help the matter. I am surprised I only lost one lap while fixing it in the infields of T1 and T2. I was more calm on Sunday, but as you see in the video, the start was crazy. I qualified 9th and finished 8th.

The video below is consisted of various clips from the weekend.

BTW, kudos to NASA for running such a great comp school. For those thinking about racing, I would highly recommend taking the class.

Hey Mike! Nice meeting you out there. Sat race was DEFINITELY information overload for any racer, let along a rookie! That was pure madness. Glad the school really prepared you well and the sat "test" really is a testament to the level of preparation they give during the comp. school. They dont joke around when they tell you it will be a long day.

It was also nice seeing more Porsches coming out to play!

Eric, nice meeting you as well.

I thought by talking to you i would absorb some of your "fastness" thru osmosis but that didn't seem to work too well. I could only imagine what it feels like to finish 1st in both races. Great job!

You picked up positions! Though I think you let the "fastness" slip through you and into Josh. I didnt even know he came in 3rd until the last run through roller coaster. I was expecting to see Denis (black M3) behind Doug (red BMW), but it was Josh! I was like, HOT DAYUM!

My 1st place finishes are more rare than it appeared this weekend. I was due.

Very nice!! You're still faster than those who stayed home. Heard it was HOT!

Yeah, Josh is a stud. He also had his wife and his brother in-law checking his tire pressure, refilling the ice chest, giving him shoulder and foot massage in between every session.

Sunday was way too hot. I need to get myself a cool shirt. I was sweating by the buckets under my race suit.
