Default Genuine "turbo look" question

I've come across an attractively priced 1984 Turbo Look 911. How can I tell if it is a true Turbo look? (was it option code M471? 491?) What if the option code sheet isn't available? Were these built in VIN series or simply identified only by option code?

My understanding of the option code is that it really WAS a full turbo (trailing arms, brakes, suspension etc) but the NA 3.2L motor. For 1984 it would have 7/8 in fuchs (of course, this car has BBS in place of the Fuchs, so that doesn't help much as an identifier).

What other clues are there?

I know little about it. Hope you get it though, those are sweet. My understanding is that they are Turbos in every respect, most importantly the suspension, with out the turbo. Nice ride.

M491 = obviously the steel flairs, turbo brakes, rear control arms, 7&8x16s, front & rear spoilers.

Visually, how are the Turbo control arms different? I assume thicker (for strength) but are the also longer? Different mounting location?

different angle to chassis = different mounting and t-bar tube. My 911 Performance book is in the shop but maybe someone else can look up the angle? I'd think if it didn't at least have the Turbo brakes you would walk?

I think they are actually shorter, with a revised mounting location. The easy giveaway is the caliper mounting - they are on the rear side of the hub instead of the front.

The slow way would be to request the certificate of authenticity. But I don't think you want to go that route for a car you don't yet own.

The inner mount is both upward and rearward. Increased anti-squat, camber curve more closesly matches body roll (the roll center is raised). You can get inner camber boxes from places like Smart Racing to do the same thing (even adapt a turbo arm to a non turbo chassis) Kurt built some for his race tub.
