Default Antique\Collector Insurance

Searched the forum only track info. I will do the same on other sites...I think I have decided to get antique tags.....I only drive her about 3-5k a year and to have her fully insured to the hilt...Would cost me more than I want to pay...Plus it is a real pain in the A$$ to find a place to do inspections that have lifts that are built into the ground so that it is flush with the floor...(Car is lowered and always hits the lift.....)My insurance company which is also a broker will not touch me since the car is not garaged....I could not fib either

Does anyone know of a good reliable company before I do the internet search...

Thanks again
.

Historic plates and collectors type insurance aren't connected.

You can insure a historic car just like any other car. If you put it on a daily driver type policy, you can't really get agreed value (but gone are the emissions and safety inspections). I understand State Farm has a policy that isn't actually agreed value but does have higher limits for collectible type cars. How well that works come claim time I dont know.

You can use collectors insurance for cars that aren't historic yet. The obvious lure to use a collectors type policy is the cheaper rates and agreed value. I've been looking into this recently for the 914 and 911. *ALL* of them require garages (and an enclosed trailer doesn't count!).

I've talked to:
Leland west
American national chrome
Haggerty
Grundy
American Collectors Ins
Parish Heacock

FWIW, Only Parish Heacock will allow a rollbar/cage in a car.

State Farm gives me a decent rate for limited mileage, I think my max is 7500/yr. I believe they also have a ~3k yr policy.

Check USAA if you can. You need to be us military or child of one. USAA rocks. My 912 is $180 a year or something close. Full coverage. I have also seen USAA pay out for DE damage twice and did not drop the coverage of the drivers. Only down side was they did not cover the replacment DE car in one instance. (go figure) This depends on your policy and the state you live in.

I have been with Hagerty since I got my ride, made a claim once, it was all handled over the phone through the sublet shop on a windshield replacement, no problems. All went smooth. The one thing I hate is that you have to get their concierge service with the policy which gives you a maximum of $50.00 towing. Come on, I'm in the car business, I have relationships with more towing companies than anyone can shake a stick at. Otherwise, pretty descent experience since I signed. All done on-line and over the phone.

i write through haggerty and it is a great company but will not write a policy on a non-garaged vehicle.

The only company I haven't seen mentioned in this thread is Sneed. I don't use them, but have heard they are not as strict as other collector insurance outfits (most likely they will still require a garage).
