Hello guys
Just killed my front tires at 2 days at Summit. It seems I am getting fast enough to kill street tires now, what's my next step? I'm looking for something that will last at least a few events and is relatively I have an extra set of wheels I could mount track tires on, but dont have a trailer yet so I'll have to drive them to the track as well. Thanks for any insight! Chris |

I just spent the weekend on Proxeys instead of slicks and am verrrry impressed. They may not be the absolutely fastest but they are extremely consistent and seem to wear like iron. Lots of fun.

Chris, what do mean when you say you killed your set of tires? Wore all the tread off them? Flat spotted? Tire characteristics changed noticably?
Just curious. Thanks. |

Thanks for the info. I'll look more into the toyo's.
Sorry for the vague description. The front tires started to chunk, small pieces of tread are now missing. They also are pretty worn on the outter edge. I played with tire pressures on thursday with little luck. On the way home @ ~70mph the wheel was shaking like crazy. Strange how it didnt see that bad on the track. |

Another vote for Proxes RA-1.
The are fabulous track tires, they get better with time [get 'em lightly shaved to reduce squirm], they last forever, and they are reasonably priced. Not good on the road - very soft, very vulnerable, easily punctured, wear fairly fast [vs typical street tire]. Diabolical in the rain at cruising speeds.

I've put 10 track days on a set of used Yoko A032R tires. They've worn evenly, no flat spots and still have tread. 3 of the track days were in the rain - they handled great.
They're too noisy for the street.

Thanks again all! I had some lock up, need to address some brakes issues as well, but the fronts are not flat spotted.
I like the idea the Yoko 032r's lasting 10+ track days, plus I could drive them to the track. I think the Toyo's might be the way to go if I can get the extra wheels to the track. Being a rookie I have a couple questions about shaving tires. I understand that the more tread the better the tires are in the rain, in general. If I were to get the Toyo's unshaven would they be ok/good until they are worn in? Do you have to shave them, or can you just assume they will get better after they wear a little? Are these silly questions and I should just spend the $$ and assume I will need to replace them a little sooner? Thanks again |

You can run them unshaved, and they will be better in the rain. The only downside is that they will squirm a little under heavy loads, particularly when new.
These tires are amazing - they just keep getting better, and last a LONG time. My rears have done almost two full seasons and are still great.
