Default What a difference proper tires and brake pads make!

I know I'm not saying anything new or brilliant here, but I've got a few minutes to kill . . .

I was at VIR last weekend with the 996, and it was my fourth event with that car. I had NT01's on the car, and PFC 08 brake pads (stock rotors). First time with this combination. Wow! The car really felt great and I quickly developed a lot of confidence in the brakes (though I probably still left plenty on the table).

My first two events with the car (SP October last year and SP April this year) I was on Dunlop Direzzas with stock brake pads. Coming off driving a 944 and a 924S, the braking in the 911 seemed pretty good. However, I knew there was a lot of performance to be gained.

At Watkins Glen last June I had the NT01's with stock brake pads. Maybe a bit of air in the brake lines. Anyway, the brakes didn't feel up to what the tires could do, and I didn't have a lot of confidence in the brakes.

Much better with the PFC's! Wish I were headed to SP this weekend, but I'll have to wait for PorscheFest. Looking forward to being on familiar territory with the new tires and pads.

Did those stock brake pads you used to use made it through a 3-day track weekend?

Peter--The stock pads that were on the car when I got it made it through 1.5 events at SP. Another set of front pads made it through the rest of the 2nd SP event plus the Glen; they have a bit of street life left in them.

Collin--Next on my calendar is PorscheFest. Hope to see you there. Thanks for riding with me at WG.
