Welp, after 6 years of 944 ownership, and just coming up on 125k the thing went all milkshake. I guess this is what I get for letting my PCA membership expire in Feb. I'm getting it towed down to Intersport this afternoon. You all have said good things about the guys down there, so its time to spend that tax return on some new bearings.
So, any recommendations for WYIT (while you're in there) repairs? That pesky seeping oil pan gasket will get repaired. Also thinking of throwing an oil pan baffle in since this thing will be seeing track time again. What else? If you were looking for a 944 for track use what would you want to see on the repair sheet for the car? I've thrown around the idea of parting ways for an air cooled 911 so i'm looking for things to do that will help w/ a future sale. Thanks dorki's. Its nice to be back on this site, just not under these circumstances.

Hmmm, while you're in there? Well, if a turbo then the list would be much longer so at least there's that.
But I would say the following are things you should consider: - New motor mounts, assuming they aren't recent - New trans mounts, if you need to remove the trans - Clutch, if it's nearing time (could be an oppty to switch to a lightweight flywheel) - Front-end reseal - Balance shaft reseal - Water pump and timing/balance belts, if not otherwise new - Obviously new head gasket -- good opportunity to have the block and head decked. Have the head's valve seats/guides checked - Could "splurge" for a new ISV, plus associated rubber lines (chances are they're toast) - New o-rings on the AOS - Drill oil pan for temp sender (better location than drain plug method) - Stud the head for the intake -- currently it uses bolts but this causes alignment issues/difficulties. Studding is cheap and makes installation of the manifold much easier - Check the condition of the exhaust manifold -- cracks? - New fuel lines and injector O-rings - New vac lines, if you haven't done so since you've owned it - Check condition of injector, speed/ref sensor, and knock sensor harnesses, and if necessary, replace. You might also want to consider putting in an oil cooler, or at the very least the oil temp gauge. Oil temps on N/As aren't bad but you should at the very least know what they are.

Assuming the NAs have an oil cooler mounted to the block like the turbos, change those seals. Much easier to do w/ the head off and header out of the way.
Heater control valve is somewhat behind the intake, so a good opportunity to replace (removing it also makes it easier to clean the grounds on the bell housing). Rod bearings are a major job and no real labor savings doing it while replacing the head gasket. I probably wouldn't touch them unless you think they're compromised due to the oil contamination. What symptoms did you see that makes you suspect the head gasket?

So, I bought the car about 7 years ago. I had a decent service done at IMA at that time. Valve cover gasket, bearings and seals on the front of the motor, belts, water pump, timing belt, etc. were all replaced. The car might have 8k miles since then, and I've done the usual fuel filter, oil changes, and coolant. I have also done the motor mounts.
I started it up the other day after not running in since September or so. The expansion tank is brand new and the fluid in it looked like coffee. The oil dip stick was showing a nice light amber/maple syrup colored oil. Given the oil is over a year old I consider that ok. However there was some white shit also in the oil, so i've had it taken to Intersport. The front cylinder injector was spitting fuel so I am going to have that addressed while it is at Intersport. I also am going to inquire about an oil sump baffle while the pan is off. What else is worth looking at?? EDIT: I do not suspect a bad head gasket, i'm leaning toward the oil/coolant gasket being an issue. I've got enough in the car, and love owning it to throw some more into it.

Go big or go home, right? Talked to Intersport today and we are just gonna do all the things. Flush coolant, new radiator, new crank bearings, new injectors, new fuel regulators and lines, oil pan gasket replaced, oil coolant gaskets replaced, and maybe a few other odds and ends.
Wife is not thrilled, but its still cheaper than a well sorted 911 for now.
