My car was parked at work and a runaway truck struck mine and a coworkers car from the rear.
My car was moved about a foot forward and maybe six inches to the right. Since the car was in park, do I need to worry about the trans axle? (I have a friend who was behind a Ride-On bus and the bus backed into him while he was in drive. A week later his transmission bought the farm). The adjuster is coming next Wednesday to examine the damage. My DD is a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant.

Park is essentially neutral with a “pin” to hold the car in place. If it still holds the car in place it should be OK. Might want to have the trans fluid changed to see if there is any sign of metal

This happened to my previous truck with an automatic transmission. The impact didn't hurt the trans but did knock my alignment out of wack.
