In his defense, TD is nothing if not technically sophisticated. No comment on the "high maintenance" part, however

Impressive Jazz. I see you HAVE given him to understand the importance of and reverence owed the crewchief.

(Also, I find it touching and commendable that you are so generous - in public - to allude that your driver has some technical expertise. However, I note who must perform the re-wiring).

True intelligence is the ability to recognize your own limitations.

I am missing something. Why have a switch that WILL be forgotten in the heat of a race or DE weekend? Use two thermostats to two little relays that control high cool and low cool to the fans. You can get inexpensive tunable T stats that can be glue mounted to the cooler or other good location if needed. Have the fans come on and go off via the thermostats and leave the low cool in the unswitched ign key loop for parking lot cooling. Add a driver actuated power switch if you must but have the power switch be able to be overridden by the high cool relay. This way you get the cooling needed when needed and can think of shit other than little switches and roasted motors when driving or coming off a good run.

That sounds reasonable.

Morning Kurt.
Assuming the cooling system is well maintained, the second cooling fan is not needed.

The relay on the primary fan is only used to switch between high and low fan speeds. Since simplicity is a good thing; my mod eliminates the relay and only has high fan speed. The primary fan is still running as you describe, through a (oem) temperature switch. But with some simplification.

The second fan is then available as a backup and supplemental.

The system is as simple as possible and as flexible as possible and with as much over-ride control as possible still being simple. No relays and only one temp sensor to fail.

If my drivers can't remember to operate the car and systems properly I need different drivers. Checking the guages at least once a lap and operating one toggle is not asking too much.
