From what I know, there's no easy way around a 944 clutch (although I believe the 968's finally provided an access panel on the bell housing). You either pull the engine from the top, drop the suspension and engine from the bottom, or disconnect the tranny and torque tube; neither of which is particularly easy.

As far as a shop job, the cost is probably going to be around $2000-2500. However, if they remove the engine, it could be a prime opportunity to do rod bearings, timing belt, water pump and RMS. Alot of the labor could be absorbed by combining jobs. At the very least, get the RMS done, and insure you're not replacing the clutch with an OEM rubber-donut-in-the-middle variant.

I've had good work done at Intersport. Ask for Charlie, and he can detail how & whether the jobs should be combined.

I was satisfied with Ralph's in Reisterstown MD. It's a bit of a haul, but for a big job it may be worth it.

Ralph's Auto Service, Inc., 12300 Glynowings Drive, Reisterstown, Maryland 21136, 410-526-2500

You can tell him I sent you (Greg Cirillo) but I only bought the car in September and used his shop once for the PPI. He may not remember me.

No. Intersport Performance is in Tysons Corner. Their number is 703-242-8680. Ask for Charlie Murphy; he's one of the owners and a 944 Guru Extraordinaire. Charlie usually has simple is better approach, and I like that.

Of course they aren't the only shop in town. IMA is another good one, although I've heard that like to promote more go-fast upgrades whenever possible (Ivan is the builder of "Blue Meanie"). I was referred to Intersport by several friends, and have -0- regrets. Lots of good shops out there, including RPM, Curry's, Tag, Funktion, ASG, TPC........

Well I think I blew it in the cost estimating dept. I just spoke with Charlie myself, and it seems the number I've been carrying around in my head is the labor cost. I forgot that a quality clutch/pressure plate kit runs around $600-800 by itself. Charlie said that his quote also includes removing the flywheel and replacing the RMS. He also mentioned that he would install your own clutch/flywheel if you bring it in, BUT, he would not be able to warranty the work. If he provides & installs, he takes responsibility.

If you ask for other quotes, make sure to ask also about the RMS.

I apologize for exposing my DumbAssity.
