Well not really, I have to adjust the clutch, but it runs. More later.

The distributor was in backwards, which was a mixed blessing. Charlie's advice of pulling off the valve covers allowed me to find that I had adusted the valveswith it in backwards as well...which would explain the huge adjustment I had to make for a previously wellrunning engine. D'oh! A scond blessing is that the air box pop off blew out of it's glue, so I could glue it in properly (was facing the wrong way).

On the second try, the car revved right up to 3000 and stayed there! (The cruise control cable was damaged during removal so when reinstalled it held the throttle open. )

Today I will be adjusting the clutch cable as the pedal is about halfway to the floor.

What was wrong with the cable, I removed it and didn’t think I damaged it?

Steve, cool! Question: how do you install a distributor "backwards?"

I'm pretty sure I removed it. At least the part that got broken, that's how I knew it broke. It was the black plastic ring that encircles the cable. I thought I could run without it, I will have to look at the matter closer. Don't worry about it Dave.

Richard, the distributor goes around one time for ever 2 turns of the crank. I had the cylenders lined up at TDC for #4 and installed the distributor pointing to #1.
