So my first major project for the 914 is to address the front brakes. In doing so, it has led to replacing the front pads, calipers, rotors, and wheel bearings. While you're in there stuff.....
So I sourced all the parts, but have one question about the new seals. They don't look like the originals, but do fit in the hole. The originals have a "lip" and the new ones just fit inside. FYI, I didn't tap the new ones flush in this picture. So will the new ones work??

The lip is to set the depth of the seal. As long as the new seal fits the hub and the spindle you will be ok. If you set both seals(old and new) flat next to each other are they the same height?

Wouldn’t the lip also act as a “spacer” sorts?

I wouldn't think so, the races set the position of the hub. If the seal was a spacer, it would wear out and the wheel would never be tight.

Not an answer but.. good for you Vu! I think a true Dorki "while your in there" would have been to convert to 911 front suspension and brakes, but I understand and admire your ability to disregard this temptation

H,
You don’t need to worry about that with a 914 it will not go that fast!

I think the lip has only one function, that is to keep crud from entering the bearing.
