Default Rear Seat Belts

My kids ride in the back fairly often.
My car came with what I'd call standard belts (If there is actually a standard) The adjuster is simular to a camera strap, It would be nice if it was like a backpack strap. You could snap it then pull tight.
Anyway, mine are a real PAI to adjust. I've never had a kid that was able to do it themselves. It usually takes me several minutes bacause I fisrt have to judge how big or small to make it then clip it. It sometimes takes a few tries. Also not easy tring to do it with the kid in the seat and crawling half way in the door. (Kinda fun with young ladies!)

I would be happy if they were just the kind that you could snap and then pull tight.

I found these automatic ones on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=50458

Last night they were $9.95 now their getting pricy and then add the $10.00 the guy wants for shipping.

I've herd that the belts are made by the same folks as VW and Audi.
My front belt retractor has the Audi circles on it.

What to do?
Does anyone know the secret to making the stock belts easier to adjust. (It's almost like the area in the adjuster is too narrow for the 2 belts to pass thru.)

Anyone got one of these cool retractable types cheap? How about a lead.
(I'm not sure I like these as much as the others where I could strao the kids in and know their not loose)

How about other cars that have belts that would look right.
I would imagine VW belts would be pretty cheap especially if they came out of late 70's or early 80's car.

Anyone got a clue?

Buy the ones from eBay - seems like a good deal. My Carrera has these types in the back - no adjusting necessary.

Ajusting the belts might be the least of your problems with back seat riders. If you install a roll bar the back seat is off limits for humans while the bar is in place. Compared to unbolting and removing the bar, the belt sliders would be a joy.

Kurt, you'll rethink that statement when they become teenagers.

I know all about teenagers and back seats, I had a Honda civic back in the 70s.

Back OT.
I watched the auction last night and wasn't going to part with $60 before checking my belts out. I took them apart and found the secret and and some gunk that accumulated over the years that caused the issue.
After cleaning they work almost as you would expect except in doing this I learned the trick!

Kurt, thanks for your comments. I bought the bar for DE. (Nobody in the back with the bar.) In fact it's a "race" bar so the diagional and horrizontal cross bars are not removable. So with the bar in it's a 2 seater not 4. Kids would have to ride in the Family Support Vehicle.

Off Topic: Way small in the back with the bar, but it would be way intresting!

This last comment will self destruct in a few minutes!
No it won't :P
