Default Telegraph Rd at Rt 1

Just found a really cool stretch of twisty road -- maybe 4 miles long.

If you take Telegraph Road from Kingstowne area all the way to the intersection of Route 1 (Richmond highway) Go straight through the intersection and let the fun begin.

Watch the first turn,.. it's a hairpin turn preceeded by a wooden bridge designed to slow ya down. Also near the other end theere is a concrete bridge on a curve that only one car at a time can go through (its a two-way street) be sure to blast the horn a few times before slowly entering the underpass.

The road ends on Route 1 at the Occaquan river at the Woodbridge line

I drove this this morning, lots of fun. I took the route kgear described and followed it back the opposite way. I think it's more fun the way it's listed. If you want you can cross under 95 and hit furnace road. There was not a lot of traffic following it all the way to Ox rd. Be casreful though, because you're close to the county dump and people are pulling their trailers at a snail's pace. If you follow Furnace road, towards the 1 lane bridge, you will see a sign for one of the now defunct Nike missile silos. This who area is sort of deserted; for Fairfax county it's kinda weird.

Designed to slow you down is an understatement. I hit it a about 20 the first time and had to stop to pick of pieces of my car. Here is a shot on the way back (5 mph). Those bumps are metal rivets holding the thing together....

Default Glad you liked

Glad you liked it as much as I did, nice country road without driving to the country. That's a good pic of the bridge and you're right -- anything over 5 mph and your in trouble

Default Favorite Roads-Telegragh Road Rt 1

Be Carefull, 25 mph after first turn, they use radar every other month, I live off Gunston, turn left onto Gunston and go to end, you will like last half past Gunston Hall. Bridge has been smoothed over with asphalt, no more boucing. Martin
