Default Changes at SSPI Racing...

Well, it was bound to happen...and I want to keep the dedicated Dorki that "crew" for Team SSPI informed.

Team SSPI has "traded" one car, "acquired" another and will run the stalwart 356 tub and the "acquired" one in the upcoming HSR / PCA Club Races (SP and LRP) .

#60 "Jezebel" has been "temporarily" traded (don't ask) to pick up this beaut:

Manhattan trophy winner out of Jim Newton's shop (Auto Associates, Canton, CT). '66 2.0L SWB LH That is "almost" as good as the '68... that is until we "massage" it. Formerly a team SSPI car that won the overall HSR Klub Sport Challenge class in 2000.

The '68 2.0L #60 will be around and we'll be wrenching on / co-driving it for many years.

The "acquired" car (197X RSR) is very similar to the '73 IROC y'all know and should run with a power to weight ratio of around 6.7:1... close to the IROC's 6.25:1 ratio.

In a not so distant future ... the BEST '62 356 T6 racer out there with the prettiest paint might be for sale...

Should be interesting...

Jase

p.s. If you think I would give the actual P to W ratios ... I have a bridge for sale 4 u.

Great addition to SSPI Racing's stable. I'm glad you're keeping #60, too. Mind letting me borrow it?

Sorry to hear about the #60 but the new one is pretty easy on the eyes as well Look forward to seeing it on the track soon.

Now what's that little tidbit about a Tub being for sale and does that mean you will soon be trailering around a different vehicle ?????

BTW, what's the current status of the IROC?

The "acquired" car has the 6.7:1 P2W. This '66 like the '68 is a little over 100hp / litre. Most all of these HSR 2.0L cars that aren't cheating run about 105 hp / litre. The hand-grenaders run more to get up front ... with no concern for getting 40+ hours out of the motor.

Here are some shots from RRI where it won a prize in the Sunday Concours:

The wheels are period aftermarket American Racing wheels.

At speed just past the uphill on way to west bend @ RRI, Lime Rock Park (LRP):

It is straight, back in CT, drivetrain ready, getting new plastic.

Jase - if that's that car from RRI I'm thinking of, did it have a for sale sign on it at that event?

Doug:

It is and it did. The owner was trying to get his "$100K" back out of the car's purchase, restoration, engine / tranny rebuild, pie-in-the-sky and whatever else can be thrown in there. He was / is a Type-A perfectionist and spent way too much $ on detailing the car ... especially b/c he put it on the track. Also, Auto Associates is near the TOP of the cost chart (and quality) on resto work.

Believe it or not, it is street legal ... through not very comfortable. Drove it on Interstate 84 for about 60 miles several years ago ... with megaphones

Another HSR racer had it as a street car for a while. It was "on consignment" displayed in his friend's Rhode Island P-car dealership recently. Eventually, it ended up back in CT in a garage and was occasionally driven on the street. That CT owner had back problems ... couldn't take the rough ride ... etc... and presto, a track ready, proven winning LH ready to get "exercised".
