Forget fun run - how about a gun run? My trigger finger is getting stiff and I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning. I know there are plenty of gun folks on this BBS and we should all get together for some range time. NRA range requires a membership and written test, so that might be a hassle for a group of more than two or three. But Blue Ridge Arsenal and Shooter's Paradise let anyone have at it. Clark Bros. is a bit of a hike and it's not a great range. Who's up for a Sat. gun run sometime?

I don't know much about shooting, but I once spent an afternoon at Clark Brothers. I was actually doing a story for the paper and that seemed like a good place to interview folks. The people that run it couldn't have been nicer -- they just opened up the place to myself and my photographer. I don't know how their range compares to others, but it looked like folks were having a good time. Pretty loud though. Their deal was the range was free so long as you bought ammo from them.

Count me in. NRA member but Blue Ridge is ok I guess. Not my favorite though. NRA is usually packed on weekends so we should schedule something really early or as late as possible.

What about Gilbert's?

Last time I was in Blue Ridge, I couldn't help but feel uneasy when I looked 'behind' me I could see bullet holes in the back wall. Helloooo...range master...anybody home?? Not to mention needing a miner's cap to see in that place.

NRA range is enough to spoil anyone within 50 miles, but Saturday is a pretty busy time, and there is the issue of the test - which they now allow others to go in with you while you take it - to 'consult'.

With some newbies wanting to give the shooting thing a try it sounds like Clark Brothers is to place to go. I have a variety of handgun types for folks to try. .22 to .45. If we don't go to Clark's and have to use shop ammo I have about 30 LB of 9MM to use up as it is going out of date.

A lesson in range rules and safety is a must if you have not been to a range. Target shooting is no different from other sports. Practice and training will be rewarded by improved performance.
