My 1990 C2 has a light weight fly wheel and will hunt for idle and occasionally stall unless the guys from ASG "trick" the computer - then it runs great. Unfortunately, if the battery is disconnected, the factory computer settings are restored and the engine begins hunting for idle again and I'm off for another visit to the mechanic.
So, I am looking for a performance chip (or other technology) that will recognize the car has the light weight fly wheel and solve the problem once and for all - any suggestions? Scott Arlington, VA |

I communicated with Steve Wong but he does not have a chip mapped out yet to address the idle issues associated with the lightened fly wheel. Any other sources or suggestions? Porsche Arlington mentioned the factory has a chip and idle control valve package that may fix the problem - does anyone have experience with this product?

No experience with this, but it sounds positive...
Cyntex Chips with idle code, $325/375 with kit: The factory chips have a fuel cut algorithm to bring the car down to idle with the massive dual mass flywheel (40 Lbs). When the factory chips are used with a lightweight flywheel (as supplied), and especially with a lightweight clutch pack (such as the Sachs Power Kit clutch pack) the engine has a tendency to stall when dropping down to idle. The specially designed Cyntex chips have a special idle deceleration code that eliminates this problem and raises idle to 850 RPM and redline to 6800. Cyntex chips also add 15-20 HP depending on exhaust. http://instant-g.com/

Thank you for all of your advice. I've sent e-mail to Ruf, Fabspeed (Cyntex chip supplier), and Pelican Parts asking about their products. From reading their web sites, it appears Fabspeed may have the solution for the light weight fly wheel mod.
