Default Migration / Blah

To those of you who don't regular chat time with Charlie or myself... or haven't heard etc... I have decided to move the board to a server in my house and dump the current provider.

THIS CHANGE SHOULD BE SEAMLESS TO YOU

Well in theory. I will migrate the site at some point next week, but after that it will have to be closed for an hour or two for my to do the final data migration.

PLEASE NOW TELL ME:

what you want changed
what you hate
what you want added

and anything else

REPLY IN THIS THREAD OR TELL CHARLIE

since I am redoing from scratch I have the opportunity to incorporate some of these things

Anyway best of luck,

Geoff,
The board is fantastic, and your help and Charlie's is very much appreciated - many thanx!

It would be nice to add pics directly to a post, rather than loading then in the gallery and cross-linking. No big deal, but while you are in there.....

Sometimes the board stretches more than the width of my screen - happens on two computers. I'm not sure that is something you can fix. Also my email notifcations go to the spam folder on my yahoo.com account, despite trying to resolve that. I don't know if you can fix that either.

BTW: what the heck is your avatar? I've been trying to figure it out, but can't. Just curious.

Thanks for the great board!
Steve

Tony I quite agree with you on this. My question is how would you vision this to function. I have envisioned a few different ways:

1) A button that pops a small window which would enable uploading of a picture. The picture would be dumped into a personal directory that would also be part of the gallery. Or something like that.

2) Or as an augementation to the smiley bar or something.

Well anyway this will definitely be something I will personally program in so my question is how should this function from the users perspective.

Steve,

I think the muddling issue of screen stretch has something to do with smaller displays or magnified icons and the current layout. I know you are not alone in the experience of this problem.

Charlie has been pitching for a more personalize look for the site (including color and perhaps a theme) that might fit the porsche community around here a bit better than the old standard. We (charlie and myself and any other persons who would like to contribute ESPECIALLY persons who work with photoshop and have graphic / layout ability) will work to improve this layout which will in turn must assuredly alleviate this stretch issue!!

Geoff,
Your first idea is a good one:

1) A button that pops a small window which would enable uploading of a picture. The picture would be dumped into a personal directory that would also be part of the gallery. Or something like that.

It could be as simple as a link on the Post a Reply form that pops a Browse and Upload dialog. Pelican runs this way. Pointing the Upload to a personal directory is a great idea, with the added advantage of allowing old pics to be flushed over time.

Great that you working on this for us - You are a NOVA god.

I read somewhere else (perhaps froma Dorki on another board) that this has to do with a link to the picture being hosted on someone's own site, not the site of the forum (where uploads are resized). Any truth to this?

I know when I upload to my AOL site, I resize to < 100K for others "uploadability".

I think the screen stretch issue has to do with the "Sponsored By" ad on the home page. When it's something like the Elephant Racing (smaller logo) it fits fine, when there's another ad that's larger/wider, the Dorki site screen is too large for my computer's screen width, and needs to be re-adjusted constantly since the ads rotate.
