Thumbs up February 2017 der Vorganger

Yay! The DE Edition!

TR gets a shout out in The President's Column!

A nice article about Summit Point.

A great article about Pitt Race by our own Lara Pierce! Glad to see the car back together!

A nicely downplayed article about the takeover of PCAP by the DE program Picture in the back should have required 2017 Helmets! George would be proud that you all had your name tags on

And even an article by the DE Godzthemselves! Lots of thanks to deserving people. I noticed they did not mention Jay

Congratulations to the Mechlers for 5-years!

Hey--from my observations last year Jay practically lived on the Grid. Thanks Jay!

My favorite article in the new Dv was by the couple that overcomes their challenges by tearing down her mobility scooter and packing it up in their 911 Cab so they can both take long rides in their Porsche sports car. Maybe some of the self described "brilliant" engineers on this board can help them come up with an easier and less time consuming solution.

Aaah! My mail has not come today -- dying to see how it turned out. Glad you liked it. Oh, and those photos were BEFORE VIR ; )

Yes.. the Feb issue was very nicely done!

And errr-ahh, I especially enjoyed the article about the Hilton Head Motoring festival & Concours.

Beautiful cars, great food, nice folks, long drive.. we had a ball! It was especially grand to get Pete Kauffman reunited with his 74 Carrera.. finally!

And of course its always fun chatting-up Keith Martin.

Pete's a bit out of the way but close enough on the drive down to VIR. Nice house and great view. Even though we're not actually related, he's a nice enough guy that I wish we were.

I remember when Pete Kauffman asked for a ride on the skidpad with me when I was a FNG with PCAP. After a couple laps he said, " Ok, what's the trick?" in all seriousness. Funny guy. Trix are for kids.

I, too, watched that restoration. Whenever I was within a few miles I'd drop in and see where things stood (toward the end I walked in one day and Charley Murphy was standing where the gas tank goes, working on the fans I think). Jack did amazing work on that car - he had the rear fenders off and refitting the frame reinforcements with new (NOS?) parts--real attention to detail. I very magnanimously offered to drive it down to Pete's when completed ( ) but jack wanted to deliver it in person...

Yep, will be doing an article for an upcoming DV.. still putting together details and sorting pics. Definitely better than new.. it has been metal prep'd, coated and seam sealed far better that it ever was @ the factory.

Yep, lots of NOS on that car including the 1/4's and the Targa bar frame reinforcements as you suggested. Some of those items gave me/were a real headache in locating..
We presented Pete with a good size box of crusty metal that we had cut out of the car during the process.
My favorite was the trans linkage cover from the rear of the tunnel inside the car. It still had carpet on it but made a nice crunching sound when flexed!
Fun stuff...

Paul~
