Greg,
What time are you planning to arrive at the track?

I need to be there early Friday AM, so will have to drive down Thurs PM.
PM me if you are still looking to share a room.

Tony, Mike and I are meeting in Dumfries at 10am. I guess that gets us to VIR mid-afternoon. How long is the drive?

I plan 5 hours, which is fairly comfortable. Most people who trailer prefer to run down 95 to 54. If you are driving the car, there are two choices:
- down 360 to South Boston
- down 29 to Danville

The 29 run is nice late a night, but not sure of daytime traffic. The 360 run is fine = good cruising speeds, but watch for smokies.

Watch for Smokies on 29 as well. Was about 30 miles from Danville and got snagged. The cop saw the tools, jack, helmet, etc in the back seat and wasnt very sympathetic. All I could say was "I almost made it'

Taking I-66 to 29 will be bad during rush hour and if there is an event in C.Ville, traffic will be horrible. It took me 8 hours to get there from Arlington with the I-66 and C.Ville traffic. 29 is the way to go if you are not trailering, pretty counrtyside and guys asking you 'what's that you're driving'?

495S to 85S just past Richmond to 58 at South Boston to Danville. 5 hours with a box on back. Other routes seem to have lots of radar along the way and traffic problems from time to time.

Have fun on the climing esses, VIR is my favorite track and I will be missing this one...

If this is your first DE you will be spoiled for life. VIR is a rollercoster of a track. Even the straights have hills and kinks.

(Just some opinions but for an early 911 with some power)

The left at the top of the esses is much faster than it looks and the turns at Oak tree are TWO (2) -II- turns. It looks like it could be one sweeper but if you power down the hill from the lefthander brake hard, late and strtaight, downshift, then point and shoot to Oak tree, downshift to 2nd and track out onto the back straight in the power band you will smoke the other Greenies.

Second day stuff. At the end of the back straight there is gentle uphill left that will let you brake real late and very hard and thus keep the power on longer. (I start on the brakes at the turn in arrow or the #1 but don't try it untill you can trail brake and your instructor thinks you are ready, its not hard but overshooting this one is not a good thing)

Bring spare skivies, you might need them after you hit hogpen fast. (17 -17A) This set of turns will (if taken fast enought) make the car feel as if it is going light and then slide off the track drivers left but the car will load back up near track out and hold. Ya gotta trust the car, its a 5.5 on the pucker factor scale but when you get it right its a 6.0 endorphen rush. The faster you make it through 17 and 17A the faster you will be all the way down the front straight.

Your going to have some fun with the car you have at that track.

Hmmm, sounds fun. Just how high does the Pucker Scale go?
