Default Type 4 mechanic

I have a 75 914 with a modified 2L type 4 bumped up to a 2.2L. I can't seem to get to run right. I'm looking for help or a reputable shop in the metro area. The engine was built in CA and only has 2 hours on it, it has new webe idf 44's, new dist with a pertronix. I'm going to use it occasionally and I want to try autocross. I had a "porsche guy" look at it and while he did make a minor (and I mean minor) improvement I threw my money away. Usually I can fix anything but this has me stumped. HELP!

X2 for Matt. Kind of a haul from S. Maryland but worth it to have the job done right the first time.

Has it ever run right? Who built it if I might ask.

Another vote for Matt as well.

Yet another vote for Matt. He's the go-to guy for this kind of stuff - and not just for this local area.

You say you can fix things so I read this as adequate mechanical ability. I'd suggest you install this engine located in Philly

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=216166

remove the a/c stuff and get a new piece of engine tin. A 1.8L wouldn't be out of place in a '75 ... price is right ... running car in a weekend rather than towing your car to MDM in Gaithersburg ... (I have nothing but respect for MDM and am apologizing to him for posting a suggestion that doesn't get him business)

I bought the engine through Import Motors, 2200 long block modified heads and cam.
I had Art Thraen build the set of empi 44s I had. That didn't seem to work so then I bought a set of Webers
Changed out the original dist for a pertronix. Set the valves (3 times) checked the compression.
I've even went to shorter intakes. I changed to wires and they are almost 0 resistance. It really acts like it a carb problem.

I kept the original 2.0 that was supposedly rebuilt but it was change to hydraulic lifters and one detonated so I figured I'd build it this winter. I have all the fiberglass panels to change over but I want to get it running right first. Every once in a while it runs great on a road test and it's "fast", it just doesn't do it all the time

I used to say the same and recommended them without reservation. Hate to say it but I no longer do so.
