does anyone know from where the ~110 lb difference comes in the two versions? i realize the rear bumperettes are different...but what about side impact beams, chassis reinforcements, cat converter/muffler/air pump? the difference seems small, but i am curious nonetheless about what makes up that weight.
thanks john |

You got most of the difference I can think of
- rear bumperette - catalytic converter - side impact door beams - bumper shocks AFAIK, all US spec Carreras had A/C standard, while Euro models did not - not sure if that's part of the weight difference.

Must be A/C in that mix if you're trying to get to 110 lbs...

What year carrera?
3.2 vintage? Sunroof, AC, power accesories (like seats, mirrors too), passenger mirror, bumperettes, perhaps side door beams (although part of me has to think by the mid 1980s the euro cars would have had them by then) Or, did you mean "964" carrera?

Just for ease of manufacture, I have to believe side impact beams are in all later 911s. Fiat had them by 74. Also, since Porsche ran cats in their race cars starting in the 80s wouldn't all later Carreras have them too?

thanks for the responses guys.
racer, i actually meant 3.2, not 964. 110lbs doesnt seem like much, but i was hoping it was mostly removable. it's hard to find clean euro carreras around here, especially when you only want an 86 red/black euro carrera with sunroof and no power accessories. |

All those parts except the door bar are removable - and many of us have removed them.
