Is there anything special about changing the oil / filter and flushing the brake fluid on a 2007 Carrera S Cab?
This will be first service on the car with only 13,000 miles.

This new territory for me and no better than to work on a virgin!

What I know:
It probably should get 8-9 qts of Mobile 1. What viscosity for this area?
The owners manual is very vague.

No dipstick, the system measures oil levelk for you.

The owners manual mentions a particulate filter which is different than the air filter. (Is it some sort of cabin air filter?)

The filter is a cartridge that goes inside a housing and there is only one drain plug.

What else do I need to know?

Can I reset the service indicator or does it happen automattically or dealer only?

Will the standard brake fluid cap for the motive bleeder fit this car?

IIRC a change on the boxster is 9.5qts so buy more

There is an approved oil list for all new cars. Can easily find it on the web. M1 0w-40 is what I use. Def NOT the 15-50 I run the in the old 911. There are only a few synthetics you can find in the states that are on the list. (funny, but both the boxster and tt list the oil weights & capacity in the manual)

Only one drain & cartridge/insert filter on the early engines. No clue what the 997.2s do. Make sure you have a wrench to get it off. The orange universal one I have doesn't work worth a darn. I bought the special VW/audi one for less than the porsche one and it fits like a glove. The housing has an odd # of facets I think.

There are cabin air filters & engine air filter. Not sure which you're referring to.

box/996 don't have a service indicator light so I don't know. If a durametric tool can turn it off (which it should) I can help you out.

umm when did you get a 997?

The owners manuals on the new cars, I find, don't tell you much for a reason.. they want it serviced by a tech and not an owner, sadly.

My guess on the 997 is that a service indicator light will require a dealer trip.. why? to keep dealers in business

I have access to the Mitchell data system on-line.
They confirmed Mobile One with the 3 weights.
We'll go with the mid range 5w-40 mostly because it's avalible.

Brake bleeding is the normal routine, but it specifies Porsche Brake Fluid.
What's that? Will ATE Blue / Gold work in here?

The filter spec was the cabin air filter.

It specifies that the PST2 (porsche system tester 2) resets the service interval indicator.

Steve will your deal work on this?
Where / how did you get the filter cap wrench?

If I can get him to let me drive it to your place, he'll save the dealer tax!!!

Learned that mobile 1 has no 5-40 so I'm getting 0-40
Also saw on pelican the the filter cap tool is the same as a 944/968
does that sound right?

On our Boxster, the oil filter is under a plastic cover that looks just like the filter on our 944's. The difference is the Boxster's replacement filter is only the paper element inside, as opposed to the typical sealed cartridge used on most cars. I have the "wrench" that fits the Boxster; if the same for your project, you're welcome to borrow it if you don't want to purchase your own.

I bought an oil filter (cap) wrench from Advance Auto for ~$4 that supposedly has the right diameter and number of flutes for the 996 (I'm assuming the 997 filter assembly is similar). However, I have yet to use it. I'm closer than Tony if you want to stop by to pick it up. I can also bring it to the HPDC on Saturday.

I did check and it fit my 944 filter.

I'm going to buy one, but just want to get the right one the first time. If possible. Good to know that advance auto has one.
Jerome, are there any numbers on yours or identification marks?
Can you count the # of facets.


I was up at pep boys last week and they seem to sell the same type,
I have two or three of the cheap ones. Picked up 2 more.
On the package they listed the diameter in mm.
