Default Potomac Swap Meet

Several years ago, the Potomac Region of PCA hosted an informal swap meet each year. We haven't done that for some time. I was contacted by a member recently who has a house with about three acres of open land who is willing to host a Potomac swap meet some time in the future. Plenty of parking for cars.

I wanted to ask the membership if this is something they would be interested in. If the interest is there, we'll move forward. The tentative date would have to be in early fall. We don't want to compete with Hershey and would want to try to hold it when it wasn't quite so hot as July August.

Please give me your feedback.

Thanks

If the rest of the responses are similar to yours, we'll move forward.

Why take potential 'stuff' from Hershey? It's an easy drive and a pleasant place to visit.

Better you could buy several vendor spots and sublet them to your members who may only have a few things to sell. Maybe have a rep. there to hand out event schedules, etc.

I look forward to Hershey each year both for possible parts finds and just to see the cars that congregate there. If anything Hershey needs help, not competition.

I would like to see a Potomac Region swap meet. I have a bunch of stuff lying around the garage that I would bring if Potomac hosted a swap meet.

Bring it on!

The annual Potomac swap meet predated Hershey by a good margin if I recall right. It was a fixture in the Porsche community for many years. They were both being held year after year and were strong with many vendors and buyers. I think that then internet has reduced the potential buyers and sellers both for the Potomac and Hershey events not competition with each other.

I went to the last one and enjoyed it (aside from my son puking on me in the parking lot). Not a lot of stuff, but it was cool meeting folks and seeing other junk aside from the junk at Hershey. I say do it. Hershey's a big committment, maybe people have a few things they wanna unload or just hang around. The last one was in October so that 6 months of time in between to break things and need new ones or break things and unload what's left.

The last Potomac junk swap was scheduled on the windiest day of the year. That takes creative planning. It was poorly attended and the only major parts attendee was DC Auto (I think) out of Richmond. He said he would never come back. Advertising was very poor and it was a closely guarded secret.

In the past I ordered two spots and shared it with Dorkis who brought stuff and shared in the expense. Hershey this year is April 25th. I will be there.

A PCA Potomac parts swap needs a leader who will organize, advertise and promote to be successful. Go for it!
