Default Using different MOBIL 1 oils

I am planning to change the oil in some of our vehicles. I understand that for most P-cars, the preferred oil is 0W40 Mobil 1. However, the only oil I was able to easily find locally is 5W30 Mobil 1. Will this oil be acceptable to use? And concerns about autocross or DE usage?

Thanks!

different cars, different oils. I use the 50 weight in the 911s. You asking about '44s?

Tony, at the ALMS Gran Prix, they had a Mobil 1 engineer come to the PorschePlatz tent and give a talk. He mentioned that Porsche now recommends 0w40 for all Porsches. I asked him about my 1990 3.6 and he said that as far as he knows, it's for all. Anyone know any different?

AFAIK, 5W-30 is not appropriate for use in ANY Porsche engine.

I am not a fan of the new lowered zinc Mobil 1 products for air cooled motors; the decreased zinc levels reduces clogging catalytic converters. I use Redline oils.

Well....I went ahead and used the 5W30 in my 944S2. I will change over to a heavier oil before the next DE (I'll consider the current change to be a flush...).

For a car that sees Autox and DE usage, would you use:
Mobil 1 0W40
Mobil 1 15W50
or
Redline 10W40
Redline 20W50

I'm guessing the preference will be Mobil 1 0W40 or Redline 10W40. But I was curious if many folks are using heavier (50) oils for extreme operating conditions. When I was SCCA racing back in the 80's, our shop had a sponsorship deal with Drydene, and we were all using straight 50W oil in our race cars. We never had any mechanical problems, but boy what a pain to start on event mornings in March or November.

Tony, I've been using Castrol Syntec 5w50 in my S2 for all seasons. The previous owner did the same and so far so good.

IMHO XW-40 is good all conditions oil. 10W-50 is OK if you are running DE's in the summer months. I did not like the slow pressure build with 10W-50 in the cold weather. Initial start-up wear is more severe on non-daily driven engines.

Redline is a good oil too. Have run it BMW drivetrains [AWD with F, R differentials and center transfer case, + MTL for tranny] for years ...

Run Valvoline 20w50 VR1 in all our race motors. I even run 20w50 VR1 in my street Targa occasionally ... not for the winter though.

Run M1 5w30 in '99 burban and '00 BMW wagon.

Beauty of redline is that they advertise ALL of their oils are compatible. Mixed grades anyone ...?
