Default RRII on Speed Tonight

Keep your eyes peeled for "DayTony's" debut!

DayTony should buy a drink for the first one to spot him.

DayTony should buy us all drink, seeing as he's a celebrity!

I saw this show last night, I didn't realize it was going to be on b/c I wasn't here reading all day like usual. Good stuff. I wish I hadn't missed RRII. Everytime I learn more about Porsche's racing history (and racing histroy is general) I appreciate my car more. I saw almost the whole show, but wasn't watching for DayTony, how the hell did I miss him???

Can someone explain to me (since I know little about the sport) why they would be highlighting a speacial series of cars (908, 917, etc) and there would be 911's in the competition? Are those sponsored other race teams (ie. not the factory) so technically you could beat the Porsche company with one of their own cars?

Steve, Rennsport Reunion is for all Porsche race cars, not just the factory prototypes. So there were lots of production based race cars such as 356's, 911's, and 944/968's, to compliment the prototype racers. The cars were placed in different run groups based on their performance potential.

Porsche has always sold its race cars to private teams and they've made a good business out of doing it. Many races have been won by privateers and they often beat the factory team to do it. This is especially true at the big endurance races like Le Mans and Daytona.
