Default Early 1965 912 with euro motor

So, I have been having a hard time with deciding whether or not to part this car. See this thread:
http://www.912bbs.org/vb/showthread....motor-in-my-66
Many have told me that since it is such an early car, that it should stay together so that someone can restore it.
Here are the details:
VIN: 350534

Engine number: * 831083 *

The car was stripped of paint and kept inside for a new paint job. The owner lost inside storage and it sat outside for six months or so. It has a haze of rust that is not too deep, you can see here that twenty minutes with my harry homeowner sandblast pot and my DA with 80 grit, I achieved this result:

So, don’t be too scared of the haze of rust on the car.

The car’s oil was changed, valves adjusted and ignition timing set. The carbs are in need of a rebuild from sitting idle for about four years. The accelerator pump on the driver’s side leaks. However, it starts right up and sounds great. I am told this is a “euro” type motor with the “euro” heat exchangers. Perhaps this was a Europe spec delivered car that was brought to the states.

Here are some pics of the car with the headlamps and and tail/parking lamps laid in place (not installed).

So, the bad:
The floors are completely rusted out as is the rear torsion tube area. While the car runs and drives, the brakes do not work and is only stopped by the emergency brake.
All gauges work. It has the correct four hole vent grilles. One of the front fenders is a two hole vent grille fender, so likely it has been replaced. The rocker panels are full of filler, the rest of the body you can see from the pics, has filler in a good deal of areas. The car does not look to have had its front suspension pan replaced, it looks original. The hubcaps look to be off a 911 as do the chrome steel wheels (date coded 1964). Same with the steering wheel, looks to have come from a 911 also.

I was going to extract this motor and put it in my wife’s 66 912 that needs an engine.
Since people have asked me to keep this car together and not part it out to make money, I am making this available for sale.

$5000 with motor and trans
$2000 without motor and trans
IF YOU WANT TO RESTORE THIS CAR, I will be happy to sell the car without motor, and when you are done restoring it, I will gladly sell you the motor. So, if you are serious about saving this car, you can still retain the original engine.

Either way, I need a motor for my wife’s 912. Either I am going to get $5000 toward that endeavour, or I am going to get a motor and trans and $2000 for an early 912 shell that is an ambitious restoration.

I plan on getting the car up on jack stands so that I can get better pics of the rust. Stay tuned.

I think it is a fair price for the parts alone. This comes with a clear Virginia Title in hand.

Car is located in Culpeper, Va which is about an hour southwest of DC.
I strongly suggest an In-person inspection.
I will NOT sell this to someone who is not going to restore it. I can part it out just as easily as you can.
thanks
kevin
