Default Tequipment roll bar

Does anybody here have experience installing a TE rollbar in a 996? I was thinking I was too lazy/busy to do it myself. Last weekend we spent a fair amount of time moving the DASport bar from my C2 into my friend's C2, and so I was kind of burned out on the rollbar DIY.

But now I kind of want to do it myself again. Wondering if anyone here has done this. I want to get advise on whether I should cut the plastic guide between the carpet and the lower seat belt mount. Also, since I want to thread the stock belt through GT3 seats and then back to the seat belt mount and attach it back to the bar, is there a smart way to do this? Should I just install the rear points of the bar first. The instructions seems to indicate you should do the front first, but then after the seats are in you have to undo the fronts again to get the belts on. Or am I missing something?

I'm definitely a green group wrench, so I could use some help.

I know this has been covered @ renntech.org. Do a search and you'll find links to Rockitman's pictoral and a lengthy discussion. I was about to get a tequipment bar but since I take my two little ones with me on weekend drives a rollbar is out of the question for now.

Firoze,

I'm fairly booked this week as well as the weekend (DE), but will gladly help if we can find a mutually convenient time. From past experience I'd do the rears first, as the front's have "guides" which make it a lot easier.
I wasn't impressed with the instructions posted on renntech. Send me a PM, let me know when you were thinking of doing the install...

Thanks, Eli. A friend of mine and I struggled through it last weekend. The renntech thread was a decent guide, actually. But it was struggle cutting the plastic until I found the right tool (then it was easy).

And then you're right, it was much easier to get the rears set first especially since we needed to get the GT3 seats back in and the seat belts guided through the seats before we were able to do the fronts any way.

We also used a couple of motorcycle tie-down straps which were a huge help in getting the spacers outside of the rear legs. And also for the last bit of alignment we needed to get the 4th leg in.

Yes, Didn't like their suggestion to "kick" or "break" the plastic. I used a jigsaw. Glad it all worked out.
I'm starting to sweat a little bit, as my car is still at HBL, hopefully they'll get to it with enough time for me to have it teched before the weekends DE.

I cant' imagine how you could crush the plastic with the bar. Or why you would want to do that. Once we had the carpet off, it was sort of obvious you had to cut the plastic. And that's some serious German reinforced plastic! I broke both my small hand held saws and several discs from the dremel. Then the $6.99 tree limb saw from Sears worked in 5 minutes.

Why is it at HBL? The 996?

That, plus the new interior airfilters now come in different scents. Apple is on backorder so I'm stuck waiting...

It sprung a leak. I walked out to a nice puddle one afternoon after work. Don't think it's RMS, as that tends to just leave a drop or two.
I spoke to the service advisor earlier he said they'll have the car on the lift either later today or first thing tomorrow morning.
I'm not sweating the leak, as the warranty should cover it. Just hoping to get the car back in time to make the DE.
