Default And he walked away...

We got the call every parent dreads this morning. Our son rolled his truck on the way to school and was on his way to the hospital. Luckily not seriously hurt. Can't say the same for his baby... He asked if it was totaled? I said 'Yep, twice over - once for the roll, and once for the end-over-end.' He's lucky to be alive I'd say. Clawed his way out through a broken window with a cut finger and a sore back. Polished the truck every day he drove it for a year ana a half, first scratch he put on it - boy it was a doosie...

Can’t even imagine what you must have gone through on that call
Glade all is OK Did he have a “good” explanation for how end to end and roll over happened on the way to school :P

Glad to hear your son is alright. I know eventually I'll be getting the same type of call regarding my son. That is if he is anything like his father was.

I was a passenger in a VW Jetta wreck that looked about like that truck. Landed upside down, reached up to undo the seat belt and crawled out where the windshield once was. Took me a good year or two before I didn't get scared every time I rode with someone else driving. This will be a good lesson for your son.

Holy crap, Keith. I can only imagine the feeling in your gut when you got the call. Glad to hear everyone (except the truck) is OK.

Keith,
With an 18YO and a 16YO, I can imagine that call. Great to hear he was OK. Its almost inevitable that teens will see a crash. We just have to do all we can to help them understand that and drive accordingly.

Well, he's doing fine except for one sore, very sore, tailbone. Hit something when he was bouncing around in the truck, a million dollar wound you might say. He was NOT wearing a seatbelt, so how he remained in the vehilce through it all is a mystery to everyone we've dealt with today.

He'd been on his way to pick up his girlfriend and drive them to school, when he came up over the crest of a hill. There was a muddy patch in the road there by a farmer's field, and when he hit it on the downside of the hill the tail end came loose. He overcompensated, and went off the side, grazing a tree which rolled the truck, the nose then stuck, and he cartwheeled at least once landing on the passenger side.

I went to look at it today and took the pictures. The truck is mangled beyond belief. Allt he windows were blown out except for the windshield which was merely shattered. The bed, gate, f/r fenders (all of them), the roof, hood and doors are all damaged. There isn't a straight panel on the entire vehicle. The tailgate ended up in the cab, and luckily not on his head. He crawled out, and looked for his phone, seeing it across the street from the scene he called us. He then called his girlfriend (a sweet girl we're happy was not in the car) to tell her he'd just totaled his beloved truck, and she asked, "So I need to find another ride then?"

Ah, yeah...

Gratefully still the father of two teens,

Keith

I'm so relieved for you and your family!! Every parents nightmare, only with a very happy ending in this case!

Tell your son to go buy a lottery ticket... clearly someone is looking out for him this week.

My kids will be doing the HPDC and (hopefully) DEs (when they are old enough) in hopes that they can avoid the "over correction" that comes so naturally when you first experience the rear end stepping out.
