Way OT
I'm planning a 2-3 day trip to Vegas and am looking for hotel recomendations. I'm on a track junkie budget, but dont want to get stuck with old folks in the buffet line. I'm not a gambler, but want to take it all in, whatever that means. I hope to take a trip to the hoover dam, always wanted to see that.

Depending if there are conventions in town, you can usually get $100-150 room rates at the nice hotels on the strip. They plan to get your money on the casino floor. I like to stay at the Monte Carlo. Paris, Bellagio, and Venetian are also very nice. Small dive hotels of the strip range from $50-100, but since your on vacation, I'd stay on the strip.
If you've got that motorcycle itch, there are many places you can rent Harleys and sport bikes to ride to Hoover Dam or even to the Grand Canyon. Also a great sushi buffet is at Todai. It's within walking distance of MonteCarlo. The buffet at Paris is also very good. It you like crawfish, the Orleans has a decent buffet with great crawfish. And for evening fun, visit the club at Rio and there's also an interesting place to get juice and soda called Crazy Horse II. So that's what my friends tell me 8)

Chris:
Just got back from a work week in Vegas. Not planning on going back but ... had about 60-70 people staying at the Orleans, myself included, for an ID Theft training [off the strip a little bit] . Hotel was decent and prices were pretty good. B/c was a group ... I got a room rate of $60. That jumped to $150 for Friday and Saturday night for those that stayed through the weekend. If you are a star trek geek ... the Hilton has the "star trek" experience. Went with some conference participants ... was fun and worth it. New York New York hotel [on the strip] has a roller coaster ride on top of part of its building .. also a lot of fun. Went to red rocks national park [20 minutes out of town] ... definitely worth the side trip. The hoover dam looked "nice" from the airplane. Jase |

Say hello to my yet-to-be-born childrens college fund. I always stay @ the Flamingo. Nice combo of the old & new w/ a huge pool. If your up for golf, hit the TPC Canyons. I've heard the Heli-tour of the GC is awe inspiring; I rarely leave the casino.
Let us know of your "did I really just see that," experience upon your return. Everyone has one.

Dude, you have to rent a Porsche and drive out to Death Valley. The desert roads are awesome!!!! I did this last July 4th and had such a blast. Also went to Zion Nat. Park.
