Default 26mm torsion bars

26mm rear torsion bars for 911's up to and including 1986. I no longer need these, so they're up for sale - $100, you pick up.

Another stupid question. How do these compare to my stock Sc's?

I think you have 23mm's. These are an excellent street / track compromise, for the not yet full fledged track-aholic, or one that's still in denial. Matches nicely with 21mm front t-bars.

With 25mm rear bars? Definitely not. Your car would be fine with stiffer rear bars, up to around 30mm. If you go to the upper end of this range you will also need more rear sway bar, ideally an adjustable bar. Perfect setup.

Great upgrade to otherwise stock early car (to ’77). Can install slightly larger front sway bar, no rear or small rear. Great around town, highway and some “spirited driving”. Done in conjunction with new bushes nets BIG all around improvement.

After I got home I checked and it wasn’t until ’86 that the rear torsion bars were enlarged to 25mm so Jims right. These would make an excellent choice for 911 up to ’85 and a reasonable one for ‘86s. Somewhere there is a table or Engineer/Math guy that can “do the math” on how much stiffer. Seem to remember that fronts on all were 18.5mm. Someone has a set laying around maybe they can measure
This comes up often enough that it would be nice if the computer guys got together with the math guys and “created” a calculator to figure this out.

Can you upgrade torsion bars any time or is this another one of those things that requires an alignment?

Dammit. My project cost keeps escalating and the slope keeps getting slipperyer.
