I converted over to 993 Brakes this weekend, learned a couple things along the way.
First the cost: Calipers from Evilbay $560-$160 (sold the rotors)= $400 Rear Rotors from Night Auto = $320 Front Rotors from Probraking.net= $415 includes Caliper adapters for front Master Cylinder from PAP = $156 Pads went with OEM style Pagid from Olympic Parts= $50 Hard lines/Blue fluid from Olympic = $30 SS Brake Lines = $56 Wheel seals = $6 Total Cost= $1433 Lessons learned: 1. Do not drill the rears until you have the old ones off and are sure of the spacing, mine were off by .060 so I had to move the holes a bit. 2. Buy extra hard lines as they have a tendency to bend the wrong way. 3. You will need 2 liters of brake fluid, at least, a real pain when the Motive bleeder starts gurgling halfway through. 4. Change your front wheel bearings while you are there, saves you pulling them off again later. 5. Check the clearance on the emergency brake backing plate, mine are rubbing and I will have to pull them off to clearance them. I have only put about 10 miles on them and the pads are not bedded in, but they do have a lot more grip, should be interesting. And yes I would do it again. 8) |

Looks cool! Got a photo with the wheels on? I think you have more 993 on that car than SC now don't you?

There is a reason I call it the money pit. I also returned the front turn signals to the origianl Euro version and hooked up the "City Lights", it gives it a different look.

The rears are standard 930 and they are $320+ a set, the fronts are Wilwood and you can buy them for under $100 each, cheaper then a set for a 993 or a 930, but not cheap. The $415 upfront included the caliper adapters and hardware as well as the hub adapter. |

FYI
Check Vertex for rotors, I just got a set up rears for ~110/ea.

Thom:
Have you crunched any numbers on how much more pad swept area % and rotor thermal capacity you'll have now versus what was on the SC? With the SC's weight the same (roughly) I wonder how much "less harder" [good english - here for you anal types that need to correct] this setup will have to work versus stock or what % of total brakes [if there was such a fuel guage that could continuously fiigure in severerity and frequency of use over a given period] you will now be using. Heat temp strips on the calipers at a DE will let you know ... as long as you drive the same before (SC setup) and after (993 setup). Have you seen the new Rolls with a power reserve guage ... same thoughts about your 993 brakes ... capacity and spare capacity. Good looking install. New Weltmeister sways tucked in there ...? 8) Cheers, Jase |

So you can get 993 brakes for about $1400. Hmmm...
Not doing this any time soon as I like being married (and I'm still in green, blah blah blah), but this is something to consider, as the last brake upgrade quote I heard was in the $3k neighborhood. Plus, unless I misread, the stock 993 brakes will fit under my 16" Fuchs. Hmmmm.....

Chris-
I have 993 calipers on 930 rotors and they fit under 16x7's on the front of my car. They fit because the rotors arent that big, overall diameter isnt much more than the carrera rotors. They are thicker though. The heat sink is greater, but not a huge delta. I think cooling is a must with such a setup. For you, adding cooling and nice pads will get you a long way. TK's had just that setup on his Carrera and his brakes were awesome.
