Well the deal with that car is that it would be an out of the box competitive car in the HSR 2.0 ltr class. For the gentleman racer, it may be worth it to buy a "done" car that they can then drop off at an arrive and drive outfit to maintain and support for them. If the car has "everything" you may want for HSR and is fresh, then you would really end up spending that much to get it just right... Isnt racing fun?

Bill is exactly right, and the car looks gorgeous, but that ad copy almost made me puke. More hyperbole per square inch that the worst eBay examples. Ugh!

Chris:
I think this guy was marked coming in the door. Whatever shop did the car for him knew he had $$$$. I think he probably has $100K into the build and truthfully, racers are lucky to get $0.50 on the dollar when they sell. I would suspect the car is worth more like $40-55K based on his build sheet. I was just at an HSR event and this guy does NOT podium. Could be the driver ... who knows. As a point of reference: a 2.0L 911 6 cylinder, carbed, that WILL put you on that podium was around $20K (initially - if you have nothing). Rebuild are $5-10K depending on what breaks. Now, the shops that were doing this have had a HUGE influx of 2.0L class customers and have gone indycar hi-tech on some of the internal engine components / coatings, etc... I heard the $35K number floating around at Sebring for a race ready 2.0L that will win and last about ~20 hours. Basically, some of these guys have to much $. To answer you origi Q: On early 911s most all the money goes into the motor and tranny. Suspension for Klub Sport 2.0L Challenge (where these cars are racing) has to remain TBs and struts / shocks (no coilovers). Sway bars are free but stock locations. A arms and trailing arms (bananas) have to remain stock but can be upgraded to '69S specs. Monoballs are a must. The '69S specs seems to be the most people can do. This includes S caliper upgrades, etc. Then, all of these cars are dipped and seam welded where appropriate. All have CF or FG bodies and some are sneaking in FG roofs, rocker panels, CF floors, etc... They are also running lexan instead of glass and most are "swiss-cheesed" to the the max. They all run minimum wall thickness cages, ultra-lightweight seats, small fuel cells, no radio, no cool-suit (and cooler), no lap timers, no data acquisition, minimum guages. It is a quest for the "lightness of being" Some "breath" on the body work and stuff 7s up front and 8s in the rear. Not supposed to fit...? exactly but they "stretch" some of the glass parts so they do. I would say the top ten have all done this mod ...including the 914-6 crowd. Saw some great "subtle" flaring on some teeners at Sebring. Jase |
