Looking for the easiest way to get all the old glue off the interior. I've completely gutted the interior on my '78 SC. Getting it ready for a complete re-spray as well as a new interior with RS carpets, etc. Any advice?

Eli, I used a wire wheel with a drill to strip the glue off and get the interior to bare metal. It's not the cleanest method, but IMO it is the quickest. Let me know when you plan on doing it and I will give you a hand.

Heat gun and scraper is cleaner but more fumes, maybe we can have a scraping/burning/wheeling party? Let me know via PM when the gig is and maybe i can help out as well!

I like the angle grinder with wire wheel approach better than the wire wheel in a drill approach. The angle grinder/wire wheel combo is much more aggressive.

Are you reinstalling carpet? From you post it sounds as if you are. If that is so the existing glue is not going to make any difference if it is left in place. Just dig out any fur or strings that are sticking up. When you install the new carpet using contact cement the old glue will soften up and help bond the new carpet when the cement is painted on.

Now that is an easy way to deal with carpet glue!

If you need to remove, I too think the heat gun and a putty knife or an angle grinder with a knotted rope wire wheel is the way to go. Eye and ear protection and a good mask is required. The surgon type dust masks are not up to the task.

Ditto what Kurt said, be sure to use goggles and a proper mask/respirator. It is a messy job.

You may want to check with your painter first, but he's probably going to tell you that it wont matter if the old adhesive is left on the floor pans. It will just get painted over. Besides, why put in alot of effort on something that noone will see or feel when they're in your car anyway!!

So, Kurt's way to do it is the way I would approach it I that were my project.
