Default 10/2-3/04 DE Report...

I'm sorry for RL's shunt, I've been there and it sucks Let us know if we can help wrench on anything you don't / aren't having the shop do.

Saturday:

I had Charlie S. as my student and we had fun running his SC around. Asides from a little drizzle on Sat. we had good horsepower weather (Greg, the turbo would have loved it). It was fun riding shotgun and watching all the other Blue group Dorkis maneuver the course. I can say that everyone I saw on track over the weekend (that I had seen when they were in Green) is getting better and smoother. 8)

Gave a couple dorki rides in White in the tub and had fun chasing the BIG horsepower cars through 1/2 and 5/6/7.

The group decided to adjust Pari's F bearing ... here's pipes handing Charlie the WB grease

For anyone lurking and wondering ... this was after the last session on Saturday.

Supervising Dorki ....

Oldtee supervising the supervisors from the comfort of his 911:

Sunday:

I only ran in the morning but, had fun with Charlie and Pipes. Perfect weather and the tub ran like a champ! The dorki paddock is going to need a golf cart / scooter to get to the classroom if it stays located where it was

Jason

p.s. Congrats to John (Lucky) for getting promoted to White!

I know it sounds like I am giving an award acceptance speech, but there are some people in Potomac PCA that I have to thank, Alan, Bob, Eric, and Justin (dude who ran with me in green and lent me the helmet). All of the people in Potomac I met both of these days were great, they listened to the problems I was having and were very helpful in ensuring that I actually learned something today. Most of that can be attributed to Betty C, she was the best Driving Instructor I have ever had, and IMO one of the best instructors in PCA. Sorry to put the spot light on you Betty, but I have to admit the truth .
On Saturday, I was driving like a 15 year old girl that is taking driving lessons to get her driver’s license (it felt kind of like sitting in the driving school’s car with the 2 steering wheels) . I had no clue what I was doing; my arm was outside the window the whole way through the track partly due to all the "noise" .
However, Sunday was a different story muhahaha , no more "girlie man" driving . Betty was brave enough to agree to take me on as her student today. She had great communication, and I was able to actually have fun. Anyone to ever have Betty as an instructor is a lucky person. She gave me enough confidence in my driving that by the third session I passed two boxsters . I know how to drive better now, it’s like a revelation hit me today and I see that light at the end of the tunnel. Driving the line is a wonderful thing. I felt really good after finishing my second day in the DE.
As always the Dorki brethren came through, without you guys I probably wouldn’t even be out there. Whether it was the mysterious bearing noise or bleeding my brakes at 9:00am, you all had my back.
Now that all the mushy stuff is out of the way, time for some photos.

RL got back to Dorkiville where fellow Dorki’s surveyed the damage. You took this extremely well Richard; I was probably more down than you were about your ride . It doesn’t look that bad and I think you will be back on the road in no time. Just make sure you keep calling and bothering the body shop to put priority on your 993, or else you never know when you will get it back.

Dorkiville

Jase hanging loose. Looks like Tony's car has hydraulics , fo 'shizzle .
John congrats on the promotion to White! The way I saw you driving, you deserve it .

Dorkiville looks like the place to be! I think I'm going to have to invest in a scooter for next season.

Thanks!

Another congrats is due... BlackTalon also made the leap to White over the weekend. Way to go David!!

For those hot on David's and my heels... the move from blue to white was much less stressful than the move from green to blue. Although the speed differentials are big on the straights, most every one is quick and pretty smooth through the turns, so not much of a need to scrub speed in a turn when running up a slower car's tailpipe (which happened to me many times in blue).

Can't wait to get back on the track! Too bad it won't be until next March.

Does this mean we won't be hearing anymore "but I LIKE it in blue"?

Groundhogs were out in force! Passing Mark Weining between 2 & 3 - side by side and on the gas - ground hog runs out from track left. Quick closing angle calculation confirms that I'll go behind him, but no way that Mark can avoid him. Ugh! Back in the paddock, Mark has the biggest grin ever. He had been getting ready for the impact, then saw the critter stop short and dump a large load as the two of us flashed either side of him

Great weekend, with the obvious exception of Richard's damage, which truly sucks.

Funniest Moment: Watching nearly ten Dorki spend nearly an hour adjusting Paris' front wheel bearings at least three times each wheel.

Best Change of Fortune: Pari's mood swing from "I suck at this and my instructor told me so" on Saturday to "Damn this is fun, and I'm really starting to get it" after a session with Betty on Sunday.

Mystery Fix: Diabolical noises from my left front wheel. Thanks to Jase's help locating the noise, puled the hub and checked the bearings, expecting to find a collapsed race. Yep, the noise was that bad. Found nothing nothing there that could have caused the noise, and no signs of any other possible source. Cleaned the bearings, hub, & spindle, repacked everything and reassembled. Noise gone! Weird!

Promotions: Congrats to John and Dave on their well earned promotion to White. Won't be long before Doug & Ted will be up there too, given what I saw this weekend. FWIW, it always bothered me to be moved up a group. Seemed that it happened just when you knew everyone in the run group, and were having fun running near the front of the pack. It does not take long to get situated in the new group, and your driving will have more scope to improve. One word of advice: Pick and instructor you like [look out, Betty!!] to ride a session with you each event. There is no better way to keep improving.

Superb weather. Great location for Chez Dorki, although it was a real plus to have the scooter! I can see us having Dorki scooter races next season.

What a great weekend, whish it didn’t have to end so soon. The weather was beautiful with barely a drizzle mid afternoon on Sat. The ambient temps were low enough not to wreak havoc on oil temps and the cooler denser air was definitely felt in the seat of the pants as up shifting was happening earlier between corners.

Pucker Moment: Trying to pinch the apex into 9 after a late turn-in resulted in a 180 spin up the hill. 2 feet in kept the cart on the track and rolled up/off onto the track-out alligators. Another lesson learned. BTW: Fresh track racing stripe underwear now on Ebay. (For you Lucky)

Humbling moment: Riding shotgun with Jason on Saturday chasing around higher HP cars in White. Consistency in shifting, braking, car placement, etc, are essential when you are HP challenged. Watching Jason manhandle that car and dance with the steering wheel was a real treat.

Fun Moment: Lining up in the back of the pack with Doug last session on Sunday. We had the whole track to ourselves practicing our passing signals and watching/learning each other’s lines through different corners. Let me tell you, Doug can close a gap in the carousel and can create a decent one if you are chasing. We exchanged pointers at the end of that session and I learned a couple things about coming into 6, which WILL translate, to a better line through the rest of the carousel.

It was nice meeting new Dorki's, Nova996 and Frioze. Hope to see you guys out there again.

Congrats to Lucky and Balcktalon for their promotions. 2 less threats in Blue.

BTW: Allie should have her photos up by the end of the week.

Till next year.......

It was an awesome weekend, guys. It was a pleasure meeting everyone.

Richard, I hope the car is all sorted out soon.

And Congrats to John and everyone who moved up a group!

Betty, what is your rate nowadays for instruction? Next time we're out there, I just want to say I could really use some help. If you can't do that, can I at least be your agent?

See the thing is, Betty, I need to get out of blue urgently before Pari gets there and runs me over. First it was the groundhogs, then the Boxsters, so I'm sure he'll be blowing away 996s next.

Of course the way Pari tells it, they might move him to Red by the time I run with you guys again next year. So maybe it's not a big issue.

[BTW, little known fact: Pari is actually Ralf and Michael's long lost brother. OK, maybe half brother. ]
