Well Saturday was a success... With everyone's help we were able to pull the tranny out of the car, address a problem with the throw out bearing, and a couple of bent CV Bolts. Huge thanks to everyone who came out to eat some BBQ, drink some beer and help out with the car
Here are some pictures from the event. Jim got some great shots!!: http://www.itvl.com/eric/_cars/tranny/ It looks like I've got another tranny problem, I will post details when I know more. Thanks again to everyone for all of the help! ~Eric

Glad to hear you had a good turn out. Wished I could have been there. Hopefully your "another tranny problem" isn't too serious.

So what was the other tranny problem? And is that photo of your car on a flat bed arriving at or leaving your house? Don't tell me you had to have it towed to a shop on Sat. Did you have a complete new clutch kit to install?

I was driving to the crab feast on Sunday, the car was running great, I logged about 25 miles driving around the neighborhood, and then a longer drive out to Cascades went fine.. I started to make my way out to Fairfax, about half way there I go to downshift from 4th, to 3rd gear and the shifter is stuck in 4th, so I pull over and check the shift linkage, thinking something was not adjusted properly when we put the car back together on Saturday, no luck.
I had the car towed home (I've used 3 roadside calls in 2 weeks!) and started working my way through the problem. I pulled the shift linkage off, and everything was freely moving, but the gear selector on the tranny was jammed... I have a feeling this pelican article should sum up this weeks project ~Eric

are you interested in doing a tranny swap? i know of a well used one in lorton area that could hold you over while you look at your trans. heck, it could be swapped in 2 hours! you might have to learn to double-clutch though.

I think before I do anything I am going to try pulling it out of gear (like the pelican article said) if that doesn't work I might take you up on the one in Lorton, and use mine in an attempt to learn how to rebuild a tranny.

Eric,
It was fun for the few hours I was there. Sure sounds like an interesting problem. It was nice to meet some of the other Dorkiphi as well. Let me know if you need some more help or get stranded again. I'm on the road a lot and you can always call my cell phone. E-mail me and I'll send you the number. john
