So my 911 has battery drain. I can jump start and it runs fine. Sits for a day and starts fine. Sits for a week or more and doesn't start at all. I've never used or had to use a battery charger on a car battery. I have a trickle charger that was used on an old boat battery, but I've never used it.
Do I just hook the trickle charger up to the battery in the car? Do I have to remove the battery and charge it? Car is a 76 with a 3.2 and a working clock on the dash. Thanks.

you should be able to hook it straight to the battery while the battery is still in the car. No need to disconnect/ pull it out.

Charger leads hook to the battery. They are usually a few feet ling so you can get to a hard to reach battery. Plug and unplug it when you come and go. A pretty easy set up. Sounds like you have a normal battery charger vs the new tender style batterry set ups. How old is the battery and the cca? Anything running that could draw tthe battry? My ducati has a large red light for the imolbilizer that drains the battery hard. It is about the size of a car shift light. Ive had to replace a few batteries over the years bc i forgot to hook up the charger. Freaking thing blinks every 3-4 seconds when off.

TR I think it is the clock. That is all I can figure that is constantly on. And normally it isn't just a week that it sits, it's more like a month. I know I should drive it more, and that would probably be the answer, but life is getting in the way.
Ducati- it is an Optima red top, but I don't know the cold cranking amps without going to look.

I would use a tender on any car that sits for a monh at a time clock or not. Lead acid battery's drain by themselves.

Hey guys, quick update. I put the tender on the 911 two weeks ago and haven't even looked at it since. Went out this morning, took the tender off, and first crank she fired.
Thanks for the help. I guess she is just angry that I let her sit.

Might be worth poking around with a multimeter at the fuse box. With the car turned off and parked, see which circuit(s) are still drawing current. That would help narrow down the source of the drain.
