Default Drive shaft boot question

82 sc with 86 3.2 engine

While rebuilding drive shaft noticed the boots I got came with a different connection piece than what was on car. The old ones were like a cap that slid over the cv joint (at least the inner ones). I can see this being a bit more solid but My only concern is the bolts may not go all the way through. these show on pelican as correct for the car. Anyone have experience with these or is there anything to concern myself with. Thanks.

The picture looks like there's a spacer ring pressed into the lip/cap of the boot. Any chance it really is a separate piece and it can be pried out? If it comes out, the boot should fit like your old one.

I agree. Just wasn't sure if I should pry it out or if there was something new.

Still not happy began to do some research on CV joints and found the below Pelican thread. Very informative and have since ordered some slightly longer bolts so as to keep the spacers in the boot end caps as well as ensure i had bolts where the thread would go all the way through the both ends. lots of good info in this write up.

Not sure where you ordered the bolts, but I've found McMaster-Carr gets them to me by the next day (UPS Ground).

Put the drive shaft in last night and with the 55mm bolts the transmission end was fine, but the wheel end was not...the bolts obviously sticking out and catching against the hub...put the 50mm bolts back into the wheel end and all seems ok.
