Default Driver side Carpet on 964

Can the driver side carpet be removed without damage to install a Rennline or similar after market floor board? I do not want to remove the sound proof material under the carpet as weight saving is not the aim, but prevent the go pedal from getting hang up on the carpet/mat.

Yes, remove carpet, replace with Renn Line Track Mat, plywood or ???. Leave sound proof stuff in place if you are a wos. I did this on both sides of L’s BLAU DVL. But made them semi permanent by attaching with sheet metal screws. Be sure to use the Velcro or something to hold in place or the Tech winnies will give you a hard time.<O</O
<O</O

This is as close to a “must do” for track 964s as I’ve ever seen! Once carpet is removed (and it needs to be removed for track) your shoe heel will quickly wear a hole in the insulation cover. Breakdown of the underlying insulation is rapid after that.

You have been looking at too many nekeed picher in search of your ever changing avatars and your eyes are going bad. The key part of my question "removing without damage" as in putting it back if desired. BTW, I prefer "refined" rather than wos (not that there's anything wrong with that)

A definite must. But doing so leaves an opening around the pedals where foreign objects can find their way... like pens and such, that can wreak havoc on track!!!

Sorry I guess I wasn't OBVIOUS enough. Removing the carpet does not damage the insulation. Putting it back won't either... it's what takes place between that you have to worry about.

True dat!!! and a bad peddle board can allow the brake linkage clip to come lose too

Thank you for your clarification. I apologize. I too have reached the downward slope of my life and forget that when the mind of old people clings to an idea, it does not have the capacity to uncling itself. I too thought that it was obvious that my question was related to damage to the carpet during the removal, not the insulation. I looked at PET and it looks like the carpet in front of the driver seat is a distinct piece and can be removed without damage (at least in theory). I will see if I can manage not to FU during removal.

Rennline has a 15% off sale on everything. However, I was going to be real cheap and buy an aluminum dimond plate and make my own. How does a bad peddle board cause the brake linkage to come loose? Should I buy Rennline?

Ok now I understand your limitations I'll go reeeaaalll ssslllooowww 964s, as do earlier cars have wooded covers over their pedals. With age and water the plywood starts to delaminate. Ours was really bad and when I finally took it off to replace it I found the clip that holds the brake linage to the pedal had come off. If the rod itself had fallen off there would have been no brakes at all. Good excuse to replace it with the Renn Line board
<O</O

The comment earlier about the pen that jammed the brakes was due to the opening at the bottom of the board will let things roll (or slide) under the board. <O</O
<O</O

There is a separate piece of carpet attached to the board. WARNING TO OLD PEOPLE: if you aren't careful U will damage this piece taking it off. If your pedal board is ok leave the carpet on and it will block the open area between the floor board and pedal board. When I replaced both pieces w/RL they covered the gap.
